I don’t identify as a Baptist, and have never been part of a denomination. But the teachers and preachers I find to have the most biblical doctrine are Independent Baptist or pastors who tend to agree with them on a lot of things.

Welcome. Glad to have you.

This is a big reason why I am a Baptist. While there are wide variations that fall under the name of Baptist, there is no other name in denominations, that I can find, that follows the Bible more closely. When I travel, it is how I find churches to attend. It is also how I expect to find other people who believe the same to find me.

Greetings!

I am a Baptist, but as an independent student of the Bible, some of my views do not mesh with Reformed Baptists, nor with General Baptists.

1) I believe the Bible (I use the NASB) is God's word, and for me, is the final authority for faith and practice.
2) I believe in the Trinity, One God in Three Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
3) I believe Jesus is God incarnate, God the Son
4) I believe Adam chose to sin, and as a consequence, all humanity is conceived in a sinful state, i.e. made sinners.
5) I believe God chooses those whose faith He credits as righteousness for salvation. Thus we did not save ourselves by believing. It is God's call.
6) I believe Christ died for all humanity, those to be saved, and those never to be saved. Thus, He became the means of reconciliation for the whole of humanity.
7) I do not believe God chose individuals before creation for salvation, rather He chose His Redeemer, and thus chose those who would be redeemed corporately.
8) I believe we have the ministry of reconciliation, witnessing to the lost, "be reconciled to God" by believing in and committing to Christ as Savior and Lord.

May God bless you as you chart your course along Christ's path of righteousness.

Welcome to the BB - do look forward to your input.

BTW all Baptists churches (notice small "c") are independent as
every Baptist church is autonomous - which means : independent and having the power to make your own decisions 2. an autonomous organization…

Remember, since you are NOT identified as Baptist, you may only post in "other" "non-Baptist" sections. Sadly, many who do not hold biblical truth are loud and vocal there.

BUT let me encourage you to read and study the threads in the Baptist-only areas - ANYONE can read them. And can always ask an of us questions. Some of us have been in full-time ministry for more than half a century and like me, have a solid beginner's understanding of the Word of God.

As long as you identify as a born again Christian, who has accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are ok.

Born again, yes. Accepted Jesus isn’t the wording I would use though. More like I accepted what exactly it is that I am in the sight of God. I accepted that I deserve hell. I wasn’t in the position to accept anyone that day, more like turn to Christ and the Bible.

It was quite a confusing and overwhelming day for me. I had no experience in churches, didn’t know 5 verses out of the Bible. But I was convicted that day for sure and come to find out later after some biblical study what I experienced that day is referenced in 2 Corinthians 7:10, and Luke 18:13. And other verses. Come to find out that the doctrine of repentance is all throughout the Scriptures. At the time I really had not much clue as to what was going on. Came from an extremely paganized, worldly background. But the short version is that out of nowhere, many sins which I had committed began flashing into my mind one after another. And it brought me lower than I had ever been before, I felt truly awful. Then suddenly it dawned on me. I was never any atheist, or a believer in any of these false pagan gods of other religions but for the first time ever it was quite clear to me exactly how real God truly is, and that He had seen all this garbage I had done. That day I learned what fear of the Lord truly is. And I felt genuinely awful for all that I had committed against God. So bad in fact that for the next 3 days I was overcome with grief and anxiety.

But that same day all this happened, I remember having to take a walk and get some fresh air I was so overcome with grief for my many sins against God. I got down to the end of the street and there was a stop sign with this sticker for a restaurant chain. Mission BBQ, The American Way. That had been exactly how I was living, the American way, which is an expressway to hell. I did not want to walk past that stop sign, to continue going on down that same road I was on, the road to hell. I took that stop sign as a sign from God. So I looked up at the sky and said to God I want to be on your side now, then I turned around and went back home.

It truly felt horrific to know Christ had to die because of how I lived my life. My sins are what put Him on the crucifix. I remember that day having this sort of vision of all that He endured at Calvary. I was in no position to do any accepting that is for certain. I turned to Him. I was never any atheist. I even believed that Christ was God incarnate before converting but that was the day I finally understood some things that I really needed to. God was merciful to me that day, He reached down into the sewer and guided me to Christ on the cross.
