Spirituality and the Three Little Pigs

I was brought up in many different denominations and this is in no wise hinting that you need some spiritual gift to be considered spirit filled. I have met fine and terrible people in each denomination.

Spirituality and the Three Little Pigs… Scripture - Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. – Matthew 7:24-25

Once upon a time there was a mother pig who did not have enough food to feed her little pigs. So when they were old enough, she sent them out into the world to seek their fortunes.

The first little pig was very lazy and built his house out of straw.
The second little pig was a little more diligent and built his house out of sticks.
They sang and danced and played together the rest of the day.

Meanwhile the third little pig worked hard and built his house with bricks. It was a sturdy house complete with a fine fireplace and chimney.

The next day, a wolf happened to pass by and began to hunger pork for his next meal. He stopped by the first two houses and said… “Little pig! Little pig! Let me in! Let me in!” In which the replies were… “No! No! No! Not by the hairs on my chinny chin chin!” Then the wolf showed his teeth and said: “Then I'll huff! And I'll puff! And I'll blow your house down.”

So he huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down. The wolf opened his jaws wide and bit down as hard as he could, but the first pig escaped and met up with the second pig, whose house was a little sturdier. Having the wood house blew down the two pigs escaped together. The wolf chased them down the lane and almost caught them. But they made it to the brick house and slammed the door closed before the wolf could catch them. The three little pigs they were very frightened, they knew the wolf wanted to eat them. And that was very true. The wolf hadn't eaten all day and he had worked up a large appetite chasing the pigs around and now he could smell all three of them inside and he knew that they would make a lovely feast. He stopped by the house of brick and said… “Little pigs! Little pigs! Let me in! Let me in!” In which the replies were… “No! No! No! Not by the hairs on our chinny chin chin!” Then the wolf showed his teeth and said: “Then I'll huff! And I'll puff! And I'll blow your house down.”

He puffed and he huffed. And he huffed, huffed, and he puffed, puffed; but he could not blow the house down. At last, he was so out of breath that he couldn't huff and he couldn't puff anymore. So he stopped to rest and thought a bit with rage and swore he would come down the chimney and eat up the little pigs for supper. But while he was climbing on to the roof the little pigs made up a blazing fire and put on a big pot full of water to boil. Then, just as the wolf was coming down the chimney, the little piggy pulled off the lid, and plop! In fell the wolf into the scalding water. So the little piggy put on the cover again, boiled the wolf up, and that was the end of their fearsome adversary.

Interpretation. The houses are three…

1. The Straw House – Salvation – Salvation is great… But you need to start building a second house
2. The Wood House – Sanctification – Offers a little more protection… But you need to move on to a third house
3. The Brick House – The Holy Spirit – Offers the utmost protection… A wonderful fortress in the times of storm

Major problem with your conclusion

1] salvation, Have the Holy Spirit indwelling you so do not need any another house.
2] sanctification, indwelling Holy Spirit helps to straighten up your house and make it more livable
3] Holy Spirit, promises to stay and help you grow into the image of Christ

The story was handed down to me by a brother named Dallas Jr... He only had an eight grade education, turned his property into a farm and would work the factory. A wonderful personality of a man people would inquire and his answer was that the Lord gave him a vision... "Everything is in the story of the three little pigs." And the stated vision as given in the OP was given to him. I do not require people to believe that the dream actually happened... It is merely how it was handed down to me.

I have been influenced by many churches

Methodist – Many of my great grandparent’s generation
Catholic – A few on my grandmother’s side
GARBC Baptist – I was first baptized here
Free Will Baptist – I was baptized here also. Good people
Pentecostal Holiness – I was also baptized here.

No regrets on being associated with any of these churches. My biggest regrets are in the Methodist-Pentecostal Holiness ability to follow a generation. I understand Charles Stanley had family in the Pentecostal Holiness church. Most of our ministers get degrees from Baptist universities, in which Liberty University is a favorite in these parts.

Generations…

Coal Miners – A broken bunch of men. Poor, uneducated, but a good hearted bunch
Andy Griffith – The 1950’s style of Christian.
Hippie – The long haired bunch
Generation X – Today's bunch

I have sorrowed over the fact to see our Pentecostal Holiness church simply go along with the winds of change. And am reminded of the scripture in Jeremiah… “For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” – Jeremiah 3:13. With that I would not recommend any church without getting to know the senior pastor. Hoping he is not a guy who goes along with everything.

Dallas Jr… Who shared the vision of the three little piggies in the OP, was of the old coal miner generation and has long ago passed this world.

Ever hear someone say "God helps those who help themselves?"

Some may think this is a quote or paraphrase of some particular verse.

But is it a biblical principle. If we help ourselves by humbling ourselves before our Lord, does our Lord promise to help us?

I think yes. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

So we "help ourselves" when we follow God, rather than go our own way.

We are not to build our home on a sandy foundation, but on a firm foundation.

Nice to see grace given to the humble!

For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. - Isaiah 66:2

I came into a Pentecostal Holiness church experiencing the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit. And it was like wow! I never had a feeling like that! But as my generation came up it was obvious that it was becoming something else. Our ministers have become more educated than they ever were but it was obvious that something very important was missing.

When we had a plating department in our facility I worked myself up to Lab Technician and worked under a chemist. This chemist was very smart, professional, decent, and very good at math. When he laid out equations he did so in very neat handwriting and there would be much activity as he turned the results of an analysis into an addition. I would take his calculations and put them in the form of visual basic functions and sub procedures.

Of all the years I worked with this man I had one opportunity to witness to him. I made my presentation while he was analyzing adhesion under a microscope in which you could hear the sounds... Scratch, scratch, scratch! Scratch scratch, scratch! After my presentation he just continued to look under the microscope as if he ignored everything I said so I just continued in my work. Then... The scratch scratch, scratching stopped! And he speaks!

"You know what I think it is?" He says while continuing to look under the microscope... "I think it is arrogance!"

And then, without taking his eyes off the microscope, he continues his work... Scratch, scratch, scratch! Scratch scratch, scratch! I did not reply but went about my work. Fearing inside he was right. That was the first and last time I got to witness to my chemist. And I hate I could not defend the spirit of the times.

Our local leading church in attendance is a Southern Baptist one. I will visit while they have 9AM services when Virginia Tech is in session.

* They do not display themselves as Baptist. You have got to read into the web page
* No Sunday School
* Only Sunday morning services where everyone is gathered during worship and the time of the word
* No doxology or hymns.
* Contemporary service
* No offers for salvation during the service.

The people are friendly and still baptize. I go to visit and am friendly. I wonder, though, how people are discipled to grow in the Christian faith. They only have one service a week during the summer time. My opinion would be they need more services where people can grow in the Lord. But to say anything at all would make me out as a trouble maker. I still attend and just continue to shake hands and be friendly. More and more churches, including the Pentecostal Holiness, are turning more and more contemporary. While sitting through these type services my mind keeps going back to the scripture....

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: - Isaiah 29:13

The Apostle Paul dealing with those in the straw and wooden houses (just read into his epistles).

My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you. - Galatians 4:19
Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. - 2 Corinthians 11:28

And what I would call establishing a life in the brick house. In which the Holy Spirit helps us with such an establishment. The Holy Ghost also give gifts "But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will." - 1 Corinthians 12:11

I believe every man is blessed with a unique gift. The evidence of the Spirit is in the fruits...

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. - Galatians 5

On my way back from Washington DC I saw a Baptist church advertising a free car wash. A nice, clean cut, wonderful bunch of young people working away. I would not have a problem with considering such a bunch Spirit filled. It is nice to see such a people remain steadfast in such a beautiful setting.
