What is the worst sin one can commit?

My girlfriend and I had a discussion about the worst sin someone could make. I thought it was murder, but she said it says clearly in the bible what the worst sin is. I disagree with her. It seems murdering someone would be the worst sin of all. she pointed to scripture that she says justifies her opinion, but I am not sure if what she says is really true. I want to see what people say is the worst sin to commit and see if that is the same answer she gave me. So what is the worst sin of them all?

The absolutely worst sin is the sin against the Holy Spirit. It is unforgiveable. Matt 12: 31,32

Cheers,

Jim

btw...I said the first commandment because all other sin is a result of the first commandment first being broken.

The worst sin is committing the unpardonable sin as Jim 1999 said, which is NOT ACCEPTING JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR when the Holy Ghost lays it on your heart. All other sin will be forgiven.

Mat 12:31-32 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. (32) And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

That is absolutely correct. It is very strange, how man, in his sinful and flawed thinking, will put levels on sin. For example, in many of our churches, we hear sermon after sermon on drinking and marital faithfulness, and ignore gluttony and gossip. Funny how we talk about abortion and gay life styles all the time, but turn a blind eye to a couple living together living together attending church regularly, or ignore deacons and sunday school teachers missing because of their fishing and sports events.

We pick and choose our sins. Imagine what a different perspective we might have of our church members if we could read all thoughts and motives.

I could have sworn by my wife's reaction the worst sin was eating the last bit of ice cream in the freezer.

Ok next to not believing in Jesus and God what would be the next worse?

Without violating any rules and being as discrete as possible. She told me any sin against the flesh is the worst sin one could commit because the other sins are outside the flesh. Our body is the temple of God, we are to keep it holy.

I would check my life insurance for something like that. Be sure your kid's college is funded. By the way, what flavor was it?

To God, sin is sin. Man puts sin into categories in order to function as people.

Unbelief John3:17

Most consider this to be the blasphemy of the HS Christ refered to as unpardonable.

Belief=not Condemed
Non Belief = condemed already

All other sin is just that SIN. In God's eyes one sin is no worse or better than the other.

Let me guess. Your wife believes lying with a harlot is the worst sin?

I believe that passage in I Cor. is speaking of bringing sin into the body of Christ by doing so because we are bound together as "one body". Therefore, to do the above is to bring sin into the body of Christ (not just your own self).

As for as blaspheming the Holy Spirit; I believe the context of the previously mentioned passages of scripture is that one blasphemes Holy Spirit when one attributes to Satan the work of God done by Jesus Christ.

peace to you:praying:

So then, what does she 'do' with Romans 8:1-8???

Actually, God does seem to emphasize some sins over others in the OT. And Jesus also did this when he spoke of harsher punishments for certain sins.

I realize all sin is sin but I don't think God would say stealing a pencil is exactly the same as killing someone.

The Word that I read says God would forgive either one if earnestly asked.
