MP : For shame Eva was a Dahling' !

My favorite character was Oliver . He was the only one I could relate with -- the others were absolutely over-the-top , certifiably nuts !

Actually, this was one of my VERY favorite shows growing up and I loved ALL the characters.

We had a pig that my sister and I named Arnold. When it was slaughtered, we cried so hard that even my dad had trouble swallowing the bacon!

I can honestly say I have never seen a single episode of Green Acres. I have no idea what it's about other than the jingle of "fresh air...times square"

What was the cross dresser's name... the girl that dressed like a guy?

Ralph Monroe! I'd forgotten about her--I don't think she INTENDED to be a crossdresser--she was just raised as a tomboy, I think??

In looking up the cast members--almost all of the actors/actresses have already passed away, many a LONG time ago. Of course, I keep forgetting it was FORTY years ago that it was originally on the air!

A little trivia...

Tom Lister, the actor who portrayed Eb Dawson, never married. He is a Christian, and speaks at churches all over. He never starred in a movie that had any hint of sexual content because he said he would not bring disgrace to the Lord.

He was in the process of making a comedy short like Tim Conway's DORF character with none other than Hank Kimbell actor Alvey Moore and Alvie died before they could finish the spoof. It was supposed to be on fishing and hunting. I am not sure if Tom finished that short or not.

Tom spoke at one of my associates in North Carolina back in the mid 90's and he lifted up Christ that night.

Last I heard, Tom was living in Mississippi... still preaching the Gospel and selling grapeseed extract on the side for health.

Mr Haney is my favorite.
He was from Alabama His name was Pat Butram. He was in the old singing group called the sons of the pioneers and was a sidekick for Gene Autry.

Somebody used the term "over the top," and that's definitely what this show was all about. I enjoyed the show, and sometime still do if I happen to see it on TVLand, but most of the characters drive me nuts! Lisa and her gabbing on and on about nothing; Haney and his ridiculous sales tricks and lies; Kimball must drive anybody nuts with always changing the sentence he starts and having his own 'wonderland' type of logic. And that pig-- can you think of a few problems occurring if you had a pig sleep inside your house in a baby's crib?

Sometimes my theory of the show is Oliver Douglas had such an obsession with farming, and yet he got 'stuck' being a wealthy New York lawyer, that he was institutionalized, and the town and people he perceives are really the funny farm and his fellow lunatics.

I saw a hilarious comic singing the Green Acres lyrics to the Jimi Hendricks song Purple Haze. The lyrics fit perfectly. I wish there was a video of it on the web somewhere.
