What songs do you want sung at your own Memorial Service?

I have some favorites right now.
"And Can It Be" the old hymn.
"THE FAMILY PRAYER SONG (As for Me And My House)" by Morris Chapman, copyright 1994 Maranatha! Music

My list may change or have other songs.

Thanks for reading. This might not be a pleasant topic for some to think about. Mr. Messy.

Some people in a small church group had a hard time naming a favorite hymn. At that time I wanted to send a letter to a missionary with each name in the group and beside that name include his or her favorite song.

I know that this is different from the above topic. I just had to add this comment. Thanks. Mr. Messy

Reveille!

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:51-57

I don't know, I will be dead. Memorial services are for the living. I want sung whatever will help them carry on.

The Saw Doctors have a song called "I'll Be on My Way", that I'd like to have played.

Well here it is , my time has come
Won't be long I'll be moving on
I can't complain, I've had my day
Now I'll be on my way

And all the good times that we've had
Much more good than bad
What more can I say?
Now I'll be on my way

Don't be sad now when I'm gone
Take your time while you're still young
In the warm sunshine make hay
Now I'll be on my way
Where I'm going , I don't know
But I'm heading off in sun, rain, hail or snow
In the yard I hear the children play
Now I'll be on my way
have no fear of what's to come
My faith in better days is strong
Somewhere warm and safe to stay
Now I'll be on my way

You might think you need my love
But I can't give you half enough
You deserve the warmest purest rays
Now I'll be on my way
Slan leat anois mo stor
There's no need to see me to me door
We'll meet again I hope and pray
Now I'll be on my way
We'll meet again I hope and pray
Now I'll be on my way

There's also a Squire Parsons' song that I sing at funerals called "Oh, What a Moment".

How about "Hallelujah"

I like "Does Jesus Care", but it really doesnt matter to me what is sung. I know I dont want Southern Gospel at it (the twangy kind) and I dont want everyone to gawk and say "oh, she looks so natural". Cause dead folks DONT look natural!!!!

I want a gospel messege preached, and as for songs if I had to chose (not that I'll know or care once in Heaven!) I would like "It Is Well With My Soul," and "I'll Be Waiting At The River For You!"
Because of the blood,
Miss Abby

I remember a long time ago, when the song, "Friends" by Michael W. Smith, was new, I had a dream it was my own funeral and that was being sung. But I am not saying I want that to happen. I have made no plans at all for my death because after it happens it won't be my affair. But I have considered making some notarized request that I want NO services of any kind. I don't have a will, and the only reason I would make one would be to make things easier on my brothers and sister. I have been the administrator of an estate without a will, and that adds a lot of legwork and paperwork.

I want 'em to bury me first, then go to the church and have a celebratory praise and worship time, with a clear gospel presentation.

Just preach a good gospel message and sing some old hymns. I'll have a great voice in gloryland so I'll sing along!

Since I dont plan to die before the Lord returns,I do not have to worry bout such brain twisting tasks...however if i die i know God will use it for his glory and get the salvation message out to all who attend. Amen.

Smoke On The Water :D

No, wait, Stairway To Heaven :D

Oh ok...I'll be serious...just this once ;) Probably a couple of hours worth of Watts/Wesley hymns, finishing with Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. I suppose I better get to work on the playlist

"Because He Lives", by the Gaithers (1st and 3rd verses only). "Beyond the Sunset", from an old hymnal. If a good baritone singer and trumpet player is available, I would love that song from Handel's Messiah, "The Trumpet Shall Sound...". Of course, "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" would be nice too.

Toooooo many choices! This "homegoing" service could last hours!
