Bad English In Thread Titles

I feel your pain.

Some of them make me giggle though.

 

Rippon, give examples of how those titles should be worded? I think they are serving their purpose but maybe you have a point.

 

Whew none of those listed were mine!

No fair going back and finding mine!

If you're refering to grammar... I ain't never cared a whole bunch about talkin no good grammar no way!

But titles I don't care for are those too broadly vague-- such as, "Question--" or "What do you think about this?" or "Doctrinal Differences." Something should be in there about the focal point.

 

I do care about grammar and spelling, so a lot of the thread titles bother me. It almost seems as though at least 1/2 of them have grammar or spelling errors.

I agree with you that they are often vague or poorly worded. I especially dislike, "What do you think about this?"

 

I think that was my point but it went over Rippon's head. If the title gets to the root of the issue then it was effective. Grammer in titles??? You should hear some of my sermon titles.

 

This is the reason we should be able to edit a thread title. Sometimes you don't notice the mistake until you hit submit and then it's too late.

 

I believe the primary reason for the written word is to communicate idea's. If the writing was understood then it achieved that purpose. You would be correct if the primary reason for writing was so it can be graded and spell checked.

I disagree here also, if correct sentence structure was important to God he would either only call English majors to the pulpit or would miraculously gift every preacher with good grammer. Obviously neither of those are the case so I somehow think that is your standard and not that of God. My duty to the flock and to God is to preach the Word.

It's a little ironic that the one complaining here doesn't use a space after a period.

I agree that sometimes one might not catch a mistake in a title until it's too late. I also don't like vague titles.

 

It is amazing the little things people tend to be bothered about. To many who post titles are nothing more than a way to give the briefest of notions as to what the thread is about. I do not care for grammar, punctuation, and proper or improper sentence structure. There may be at times typo's which anyone is prone to the nitpicking of those are childish. Life must be very simple for some.

 

If one starts a particular thread and posts it---then discovers that the title is misspelled or there is a typo-----folks, follow the little bouncin' ball---and PM the moderator in charge--tell them what you need done--"I misspelled cat!! I meant it to be Kat!!!" and they'll see to it!!!

Gettin' all bent out of shape, going "postal" or going "ballistic" over typos and spelling errors---give me a break!!!!

 

I wonder how many mistakes are typing errors? I know that my English fingers act American at times, and then, my English eyes ain't so English anymore.

At seminary we were marked a point off for each spelling error and a mark off for each grammatical error.

The internet doesn't help grammar much either. It is ironic, however, how so many make a big issue about what the Greek or Hebrew says, and then destroy the English language in the explanation.
