When Nations Die

The USofA died at least twice (when the Articles of Confedration were replaced and Lincoln's war) and only the name was retained to protect the guilty.

The USofA was born in immorality when the colonists rebelled against its sovereign Christian king.

 

I agree LE, I cannot believe some conclusions drawn here. Anyway, back to the op, it was an excellent article. I see many parallels to our nation. What I have noticed in my lifetime, since the 50s, is the general rudeness and lack of civility of the general public. It really shows up in driving habits and retail establishments. I am amazed sometimes. I will hold a door open for someone and they just walk through, no thank you or anything like they are the King of England. I think Roe vs Wade was a biggie in the start of our decline. Also, the loss of a work ethic nationwide for the last 20-30 years is evidence of a decline, such as 25-30 yr old kids still living at home and playing video games all day, or perfectly healthy adults in their 30s and 40s not working, but be supported by tax payers. Another symptom, the school shootings. These did not happen when I was growing up. Lack of respect for school teachers is another. The number of people attending church is another. I could go on, but that is the general idea.

 

In 1976 I proposed that we should petition the Queen to take us back but didn't convince anyone.

 

Move on back bill. I'm sure they would love to have you. Can't say it would hurt my feelings to see you go.

I traveled to Great Britian several years ago-----and at the Customs line at London's Gatewick International---the little British lady looks at my passport and says

"You're from the United States, are you???"

"Yes, M'am! I am!!!"

Then she hands my passport back to me and jokeingly says

"Welcome home!!!!!!"

But I didn't feel "Home" until my feet touched the ground 15 days later in Charlotte, North Carolina!!!!!!!!:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

My view on when nations die is when they become (or try to become) an empire. All empires crumble at one time or another. As Pat Buchanan once wrote in his book, "America is a republic, not an empire" (the actual title is "A Republic, Not an Empire"). That's what we have become over the course of time. When you try to occupy different areas & territorries that you have no business occupying, you spread yourself too thin.

It was kinda hard living under Jimmy Carter wasn't it Bill? Getting that way under the current POTUS too, so I do understand your wanting out.:laugh:

Great post Bill, I tried to move back to England about ten years ago but was lacking the funds to become a citizen. You must show financial support or be independently wealthy to live there as a citizen.:tear: Instead I and my family are stuck here in satanic USA.

 

So England is not Satanic? It is a greedy nation that will only take in the independently wealthy, IMHO. I'd think that living in a nation that accepts you as you are is closer to what Christ asks of us when we come to Him. That nation then, is closer to Christ.

 

AS someone who has studied Classical history quite a bit, the decline of nations is something I often think about. I see several critical factors that bring about the decline of once great nations:

1. Poor financial policy. Once a nation begins to spend too much the process is very hard to reverse. Most of the supposed cures only push that nation closer to collapse. Debasing the currency is often seen as a cure, but it is poison.

2. Stretching itself too thin in relation to military actions is another biggie. Rome for example had so much area to control that it was forced to have people in it's military who were not Roman and of questionable loyality to the Empire.

3. Loss of a common civic identity. This can happen in the realm of once commonly held ideals being abandoned by a large portion of the population, loss on a common religion et cetera.

I believe the fact that the US is having problem in all of these areas is a sign that the "writing is on the wall" so to speak for our once great Republic.

 

As long as we fade away and don't implode . . . .

 

Martin, I'm sure there's a paradise awaiting you in some other part of the world. Why don't you join Bill and go find it?

Perhaps a stint in North Korea, Sudan, Haiti, or Myanmar would help your perspective.

 

Maybe no one was convinced because it's a terrible idea?

Of course, England was "born in immorality" via William the Conqueror...then you have the Holy Roman Empire, the barbarians, Rome, etc...come to think of it, if we follow your reasoning, we should all be going to Iraq to plead for re-instatement.

I could give some historical support...but I doubt you're interested.

Feel free to do what you want...but I'm not too interested in living on the Euphrates river.
