I was watching a Sci Fi movie last night about gargoyles, and a priest said that the way to kill them was to use a priest's blood (Christ's blood). I know such creatures aren't real, but that has nothing to do with my question.

Now, my question is: Do Catholic priests actually believe that their blood is the same as Christ's as was indicated in that movie, or was that just something invented for that movie?

Do Catholic priests actually believe their blood is equal to Christ's pure blood?

Man if only stuff worked like it does in movies! Vampires turned asside by Holy Water (which my father tells me is to remind the Catholic of their baptism). Or looking at the crucifix. However, having seen the exocist many years ago I don't think I would like to be a Catholic priest conducting that rite to get rid of a demon.

    Absolutely and categorically NO.
A priest is a man, a creature of God as we all are.

I think the OP was what does a Catholic priest believe?

There might be some Baptists that claim immaculate perception.

    Cheers,

If I asked any of the 4 priests I know....it would cause them pain to think there is such ignorance about such. They are very aware of their human condition and strive to be worthy of their office.

I've never heard of anyone believing this, I agree, made up for the movies. I've seen a lot of totally made up junk in movies relating in some way with christianity. I never trust anyting they say.

Yes, I was not asking "Is a priest's blood equal to Christ's" since I know it isn't but "Do any of them believe it is?" I realize that movie writers use their imagination a lot and that very little of what we see on TV is real, but I was just curious as to whether or not Catholic priests believe their blood is special as stated in that movie, which was "Only a priest's blood--the blood of Christ--" and so on. The implication was that a priest's blood is equal to Christ's.

Some have said it was made up for the movie, but do you know for sure that NO priest believes that lie? They already believe that they are capable of saying who is and is not forgiven by God.

It's hard to say. Some Catholic priests think they have some pretty wonderous powers.

    For example (from http://www.archden.org/archbishop/docs/9_25_02_priesthood.htm)

Ummm, how is that.....to think a priest would believe his own blood is equal to our Saviour is rank heresy.

I recently saw the film "Doubt" which purports to be about Catholics in the 1950s. Most of the Catholic imagery was so false as to be laughable, sadly films tend to be lessons for those who are ignorant on the subject matter (this is not confined to religion however) and the film maker knowingly or unknowingly rewrites history for the sake of box office takings....why let truth stand in the way of a good story. Another film to hold up to the light is the laughable 'Angels and Demons"...what utter rubbish....and yet some people believe such purile lies:type:

    >but do you know for sure that NO priest believes that lie?

But do you know that NO Baptist believes it about himself?

It is generally impossible to prove a negative statement about something not happening in the entire universe.

I've never heard of a Catholic who believes this but on the other hand, Catholicism teaches some pretty dopey stuff, so who knows?

I think that Hollywood uses the Catholic religion almost exclusively because so many Catholic beliefs play into a mysticism of sorts. It is this seeming belief of theirs that man made traditions can carry as much weight as scripture that is to fault here. Its just sooo easy to twist what they believe into whatever a writer needs.

It is IMO much harder to twist the beliefs of Protestants who are more likely to believe sola scriptura and our scripture is sooo boring that it doesn't take anything but faith to cast out a demon (no holy water or anything! ). What self preserving writer would want to use us for the Exorcist?
