game addiction

it can be. I've known people who played 10 or 12 hours a day, or more, complete an entire game, all missions, defeat the end guy, in one sitting.
thats a problem.
when it interferes with daily life, prevents a person from fulfilling responsibilities, liek work, relationships,
that's a problem

 

I have a friend from College who was really into D&D. But then after college got out of it for a time. Eventually, he got hooked up with Neverwinter nights online. He played most of the day and night. Everytime I asked him to go out he couldn't be cause his dwarf/Elf/human/whatever -ranger/fighter/mage/whatever was doing such and such. In fact it go to the point that thats all he talked about. I helped him get a job that he lost because he spent all night "gaming" and just didn't show up for work. He met a girl online moved in with her and now they enable each other living a fantasy life online as their real one goes down the toilet. Yeah, I think theres problems with gaming.

 

definatelt a problem when people play so much they have no real life, and negelect their life and those around them, if your playing 10-20 hours a day you can't be doing what your supose to be doing, plus your living in a fantasy world, not God's world, not living His plan for your life.

 

Do NOT even think about taking my Nintendo DS away from me! NO. I do NOT have a problem!



Seriously, games are no different than any other thing that can consume our lives. For some it's sports, TV, food, s*x, career....Anything that consumes us other than the Lord, is idolotry.
Games can be addictive, but so can most anything when we raise it to a place that only belongs to God.

no, addictions rarely go away. it's up to you to continue to battle it and not give in. there will always be temptations.

 

I think after a while a person gets used to not living with the addiction being a daily part of their lives and maybe it gets easier. But we can neve rlet our guard down and think it's gone and we don't have to fight it anymore.

 

This trivializes the meaning of "addiction." Does anyone out there get the shakes and see pink elephants when they go cold turkey from computer games?

billwald, you try minnimize the fact of the effects of addicitons in people lives. I've known alocholocs and drug addicts, none of which saw pink elephants, and a drug addict close to me never even had the shakes. maybe they weren't addictied after all. Just because you've never had this addiction, don't tell others it isn't real. For others it may be very real. If you've never expereiced it you wouldn't know.
