What hard drive does it have?

If it is the solid state 4 gig it will fill up very fast.

I have an ASUS 1000he and use it daily and love it.

Be sure to get the ten inch size, the keyboard size is worth it.

All the netbooks seem to be doing well. I had a 4 gig asus and the wife is using it but the keyboard was a tad tiny for me though I used it for a year daily.

My daughter-in-law as the 4 gig acer and seemed very satisfied with it.

It is like any other computer, just small and very useable :laugh:

1 gig will run xp, which I am assuming the unit has. Most of the netbooks are upgradeable to 2 gig but many run on 1. We ran desktops with 1 gig and wife was on 512.

If it has linux rather than xp, we aware Linux has quite a stiff learning curve. Many have made the switch but it takes time to learn the new system.

 

My experience with an Acer was terrible. After 10 months the power supply burnt out. It was a problem well documented on the internet. They did not put cooling fans sufficient to keep the machine from overheating. I took it to them for warranty repair and they told me that they saw evidence of a liquid in the keyboard and that my warranty was void and if I wanted them to fix it, it would cost more than the original purchase price.

Anyway, I told them I would never do business with them again and that I would trumpet far and wide their unethical business practices, poor customer service, and poor quality product.

Was this a netbook, they run very cool by their very nature.

There are horror stories from about any company selling something these days sad to say. :thumbsup:

 

Yes is was a notebook. At first I thought the battery was the problem, so I bought a new battery. That did not fix the problem, so I did some web troubleshooting and found that Acer was using too hot of a processor and not providing sufficient cooling and that it eventually burns out the power supply. I called Acer to trouble shoot with them and the tech agreed that yes the power supply was shot and told me to send it in. And then they "discovered" evidence to void the warranty.

They did ship it back and I was able to turn the HD into a USB external and save all my data.

I found out that it is necessary to use a cooling pad with their laptops to prevent the burn out....just a little to late to do me any good.

 

Yes, notebooks run fairly warm on some of them though the new ones we have run pretty cool. On the other hand the netbooks run very cool unless you put them in a case on standby in which case heat rises :tongue3:

I very seldom even hear the fan running on our netbooks and when they do the air is warm at most.

 

Well my main point was, don't expect them to honor their warranty if something goes wrong with the machine.

 

I hope it gives you trouble free service and that you never have to deal with Acer's customer service. If they had only honored their warranty I would probably still have an Acer.

 

Please, please, please make sure to at least enable WEP on your router. People have no qualms about stealing wireless from anyone and the authorities will only have your IP address to trach down should they break the law.

I have also heard horror stories about Acer's customer service (or lack thereof). Hopefully you will never need it.

 

Glad you like it. Some have replaced desktops with them. ASUS has a little desktop also that some like and they have an all in one touch screen rig, a little more pricy but very nice.
