Not lies at all much less from MS. My comments are from exerience with trying to run Linux, I have tried multiple versions on multiple computers with little luck in doing so.

Wine is free but it also has the bugs of a summer night. For what they are doing they have done a great job but they still can't do everything smoothly or in some cases at all.

Many people have tried Linux and gone back to windows due to the clunkyness.

The big supporters of Linux do their own portion with the lies problem

Glad your experience has been a positive one.

OS's are tools, you find the one that best suites your needs. They all have pluses and minuses. As for me, I have been running Ubuntu for a few years now after playing around with other distros and I am quite pleased. As for the issues with WINE, there are more and more linux titles that do the same thing as microsoft titles so I run WINE less and less. Example, Open Office versus Microsoft Office.

I am glad to see MS getting a better reception with WIN 7 though, strong competition improves all OS's

Well said, Johnathon. I am a huge fan of Linux. I also use Windows for work. For personal use, I appreciate the fact that Linux runs very stably and boots to a usable desktop in 20 seconds on this three year old lappy. People get religious over their OS choice, when it is just a tool that should do its job, let you run what you need, and get out of the way. I have no problem with using Linux, Windows, and Mac OSX.

I would have to get a new computer in order to use Win 7. It may happen some day, but right now I have no plans to get one. It's on my wishlist. :)

Don't know how old yours it but many reports are saying that it runs fine on older models. Trouble is the price will get you bogged down nicely. Even the minor version is going to be stiff after their specials are over and the big versions are way up there.

I read that it should work fine on almost any model built in the last 5 years. Mine is almost eight years old. Currently, it is running on XP.

My company has beta tested Win7, and found it to be a serious improvement over Vista. It's, for all intent and purpose, Vista version 2.

I won't be upgrading my current Vista computer, but will gladly transition when I purchase my next computer and the end of 2010 (presumably, it will have Win7 preloaded).

BTW, I'm one of these folks who ends up getting a new computer every three or so years.

... I've been reading the Tech's notes at ZD Net and your right, it Vista reissued with a couple of mind boggling changes. The reason it runs better on the older machines is because your running the WindowsXP engine in the back ground and thus the increase in recommended minimum memory. And it just makes sense to me ad to the Techs at ZD Net that it is using more resources to fuel two OSs at the same time.
... The other item is one that was announced a couple of months ago and nothing else has surfaced about it. MicroSoft has patented a key stroke recorder. They are not selling this key stroke recorder so where is it? The only time I run my WindowsXP is when I need to work on one customer's website and that is because they ripped him off before he came to me and learned to never use a Windows Based Hosting service like Homestead again. At that the XP is on a virtual machine locked inside of one of my Ubuntu machines. With that hidden key stroke recorder I'm not sure I can ever trust MS again.

Bill, some of your info is very wrong.

Vista is a different OS than XP. It is still windows, but it is different under the hood. 7 is built off of Vista, not XP. It can run XP in a virtual mode, but only if your CPU can handle virtualization. It doesn't run XP in the background, nor is XP a part of it. To use the XP mode one will have to download it separately.

Actually, 7 is almost as light as XP as far as resources go. One of my friends is a beta tester for it, and was able to record resources usage for each step of the beta, as well as compare it to XP on the same machine (multiple boot). Vista is/was a hog, but MS was able to trim 7 down from that.

I've not heard anything about a "secret keylogger" from MS, and I keep my ear to the ground on tech. MS has done plenty of their own BS, such as installing two extensions into Firefox without permission. But I have seen nothing about a keylogger. Besides, it would be reinventing the wheel as there are hundreds of keyloggers already out there. Care to post a link?

What Trotter said. You beat me to it. My firm is a beta tester for Win7.
