    Scripture is clear that we are to stay away from that which is "worldly."

    Fundamentalist, Where do YOU draw the line?

    Worldly is an attitude of the heart, not an action.

    Not necessarily-

    Matthew 7:21-23

    "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'

    The pharisee's problem was that they could not believe that Jesus was the Messiah because he kept breaking all of their cherished, extraneous rules.

    I'll say it again- worldliness is NOT necessarily listening to any brand of music, women wearing pants, or long hair on men. It isn't electricity, having a computer in the church, or gold-rimmed glasses. I can remember when preachers preached against the last two specifically. Now, gold rimmed glasses and computers are commonplace in churches. So- did God's standards change??

    Yep - Women are not to wear armour that is a man's. A man is not to wear a woman's garment. But it doesn't say that a woman should not wear pants. There's nothing in this verse about pants. At all.

    Oh, and my music is spiritual songs - done with drums, guitars, keyboards and bass - and sometimes other instruments. :) Again, not worldly (trust me, the world doesn't sing MY songs)

    Verse wars aside, I think this is a good question. What I may consider worldly, some may not. What some find worldly, I may not.
    There must be some sort of standard for which we can say something is worldly, so what is it?

    Simple- If it comes between you and your relationship with God then it's worldly.

    People keep wanting to have a pat set of rules (usually 20th century North American ones) and just cannot understand how one Christian can do something that they think is worldly. Going to the mission field and living with Christians in another culture has destroyed those illusions for some of us.

    There is a worldly attitude. But the standard is not what WE wish it to be.

    Oh my goodness - SOOO true.

    We concentrate on women wearing pants or skirts when there are places in this world where one item of clothing is cherished no matter what it is.

    We concentrate on music when there are those who have never heard because of a lack of medical care has caused them to be deaf - or war has caused the same outcome.

    We worry about how long is too long when there are those who have no hair due to chemotherapy - or who have long hair because they don't have a way to cut it.

    We argue about they way we spend our time when there are those who have no time to spend.

    What is important? It is our heart, our desire, our longing for God. I don't care if a guy has long hair, wears a skirt and listens to punk rock music. Where is his heart? If he's the one out there looking to try to spread the Gospel and is in the trenches with the lost giving his very life to save them, when someone else is sitting in their comfy house, on their computer arguing over the version of the Bible and the style of music but are not touching one life for the Lord, who's to say HE is the one who is worldly?? Not me.

    What about the type of tv shows we watch? Is it worldly to go to a bar every night? Is it worldly to cuss like most of the world does?

    Can we just behave any old way we want so that we blend in with the world and no one evens knows we're Christian?

    If we claim to be Christians, shouldn't we act differently than the world?

    Wrong. Takes lots of effort to make lists, lazy has nothing to do with do's and don'ts but maybe with doing nothing but what self wants.
