Veterans Day

Just another work day for me~~ought to give vets a paid day off work but...

 

I, too, will be working, but I will never forget my years in the USAF and my "brothers and sisters" who are veterans! We shall always be a "family"!

We call it Remembrance Day in Canada and have local parades at the centotaphs each Nov 11th. Here we will have a parade including veterans, active military, sea cadets and a military band along with our own pipers.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them..."

Hey, Brother Jim, where is the quote from?

 

My dear Brother Barnabas, that is the quote we use in Canada at every Remembrance Day parade and other military events.

It is followed by our motto as veterans of, "Never again".

Yes, but is there an author you know of? :type:

 

I can't remember his name, but it was written during the First World War by a British author. There is some thought that it was written for all the horses killed in action.

I will try to find the name for you.

Today we had a service at church to honor our veterans. Beautiful music, solos, duets, and a message. Alongside the church windows they displayed the pictures of those who served in the US armed forces. It was funny to see the youthful pictures of all the "old" men of our fellowship. The pictures were framed with the name and inscription of the branch and the year of the service. I did not know we had so many veterans in our church. During the "greeting" session people were shaking hands, thanking the veterans for serving and providing us all the freedom we enjoy. It was a moving event! :type:

 

Dear Brother Barnabas, I know you experienced war as a young lad in your home country. I experienced 6 years of war in London, then 3 years in Korea and 6 months at the Suez crisis. So, I guess we are among those "old fellows".

All is going well here. I am wrestling with blindness in one eye and my usual memory problems, but all is well. Mary is in good health and keeping busy.

I trust this, indeeds, finds both you and wife in good health and enjoying North Carolina.
