What about legal drugs? If your home was in CA or OR would you allow them to smoke pot?
If so in states where legal, why not others? If it's sin it's sin. If it's not it's not.

Is it a sin to paint my cat green and pink so I can stare at him and think I am on LSD?

If it were legal, of course it would be OK. I drink but I don't smoke pot. If pot were legal I still probably would not use it for the same reason I don't use tobacco. (1) It really annoys my wife, who is allergic to smoke, and (2) it is probably a carcinogen just like tobacco. Nevertheless, I don't think it is a sin to use pot in moderation. I would support its legalization.

I'm talking solely about the moral issue here, if there is one. Not about whether it's legal or whether you can physically smoke. But you did answer, so thanks. Why do you think it's not a sin to smoke pot?

So to clarify the question: Assuming it's legal, why is it wrong to morally smoke pot in moderation if one can drink alcohol in moderation?

This is covered in scripture, 2 Corinthians 6. Paul even goes as far as to mention just because something is legal does not mean it is right for the Christian.

I think the situation of the OP is that of witness, there has to be a way to turn this into a good thing that the rest of the family could see Jesus in your life without them feeling snubbed. I bet you could talk to someone who could easily help. Let me recommend that you contact Him while on your knees.

That's not what Paul is saying. Paul is saying that just because somethign is permissible, that doesn't mean it's adviseable. No one who says the consumption of alcohol is always adviseable (such as, consuming alcohol in front of a drunkard). It is, however, permissible, and if it is permissible, then we must permit it. For example, there is absolutely nothing scripturally wrong with a Christian being out at dinner, and having a glass of wine with dinner. That's a reasonable way to consume it, and it is neither a stumbling block nor a bad witness to any resonable person, Christian or not.

Since drinking alcoholic beverages is scripturally permissible, it's not a scriptural issue. If you're of a baptist fellowship or sect that eschews drinking completely, then it's definitely a baptist issue. Why do you ask?

Since Jesus's first miracle was turning water to wine and deacons, elders and bishops (pastors) limited to the amount I have often wondered about this. Incidently I am a member of a SBC and and occasionally drink usually with certain meals. This prevents me from serving as a deacon, but I have no problem with this and respect this rule.

Alcohol IS a mind altering drug---I tell my people all the time--that alcohol will "make a pretty woman ugly and make a ugly woman pretty!"

You take a pretty woman---and let her drink and let that alcohol slip to her brain and let that alcohol "decide for" her--see what I'm talking about?? A pretty woman under the influence---is ugly!!

Then you give alcohol to a normal man--let him consume it and let that alcohol go to his brain---suddenly---amazing---to him--Hillary Clinton is beautiful and Megan Fox is ugly!!!

Since scripture calls for submission to governing authorities, if something is illegal, then yes, it would be corret to say that it is generally not permissible. On the flip side, being legal does not in and of itself make somethign permissible. Cursing and taking the name of the Lord in vain is legal, but not permissible (except perhaps while watching the Super Bowl). No matter how one slices it, Scripture permits the consumption of alcohol.
