Some of his books look very interesting and I wanted to get a copy of one. What are your comments about his writings?

I like Giesler, he has written some very good apologetics books and is a easy read compared to a William Lane Craig or others who speak above the layperson's head.

His theology is Semi-Pelagian to Arminian -- therefore quite unbiblical.

You're funny. From your perspective. I don't think he would define himself that way. And I haven't met an Arminian who doesn't support his finding without scripture.

That's for for sure. He calls himself a modified Calvinist -- and that is absurd.
He's in the semi-Pelagian to Arminian camp. If you want to call him a one-point Calvinist then go for it.

I do admire him for his work in other areas -- but not with respect to his soteriological stuff.

He was a professor at Dallas and that is enough for me to doubt his theology.

By the way, there is no such animal as a one point calvinist. It is either 5 point or not at all.

    Cheers,

    Jim

You have a problem with the Dallas theological seminary?

Sure do! Dispensational haven of the times. Some graduates are out to destroy our organization of Baptists by teaching their non-baptist concepts.

They base predestination and election on foreknowledge and that is anti-calvinistic.

I prefer true calvinism and sound baptist teaching.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    PS> Remember, it it a non-denominational school!

I just purchased Geisler's book entitled, A Popular Survey of the New Testament. It seems to be well written and quite informative.

Norman Geisler is one of the top notch Christian apologists and theologians.
The only people who don't like him are the more hardcore Calvinists - pretty much all others admire him and benefit from his books. Just about any book he's written (I think he's written about 60 or so) is worthwhile. His book on Bibliology is one of the best, A General Introduction to the Bible.

Is Norman Geisler a Baptist or Baptistic? Would he pastor a Baptist church with his theology?

He is claimed to be a moderate Calvinist. I am certain he could pastor a Baptist church, as there is a wide variety of doctrine among these churches.

I've not seen Baptist attached to his name.

I see on his website that he was

    Pastor of Memorial Baptist Church, Warren, Michigan, 1960-63;

He calls his theology on Soteriology "Moderate Calvinism", which some purist Calvinists would say is not pure Calvinism and thus poluted or tainted and thus should be called "Arminianism", which would not be accurate either, but we all know how some people like to go overboard to the other extreme direction to prove their point in the purest sense, to maintain purity of their definition of Calvinism.

He seems to be most well known for debating controversial apologetic issues, combined with basic evangelicalism.

I'm not sure what his theology is on Eschatology (end times).

I suppose he gets people disagreeing with him because he tackles controversial subjects that are not easy to define and where there is not common consensus around those issues among evangelicals. Is that accurate?

What about his personality? Does he come accross as humble or arrogant. It is hard to tackle tough questions and not appear arrogant to some. I belive it is possible to tackle tough issues and come accross as humble. Jesus did it with humility and authority; of course He is God. I'm just saying it is very difficult for mortals. Often people get caught up in the fray of ongoing disagreements when they tackle the tough issues.

I have not read much of his soteriology, but I'm pretty solid he is pre-mill and pre-trib.
