Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays

I always say "Merry Christmas"
Honestly I don't pay much attention to what they say usually. If its a happy holidays I just say "Same to you" or "Merry Christmas" doesn't bother me.

I say Merry Christmas and I do not shop at businesses that will not let employees say Merry Christmas.
My response to the clerk? or to the situation?
My response to the clerk is to beat him severly about the head and shoulders with my newly bagged booty and extort a confession of Christ out of his bloodied lips.
Actually, I just say thanks and move on.
My response to the situation is an understanding that the resistance to honor Christmas above the other supposed holidays that simply ride in on Christmas' coattails isn't merely a choice of wording, but an active resistance to Christ and His kingdom. I observe boycotts imposed by the AFA and other like-minded organizations in response not because I think it is a holy thing, but just so the retailers will know that the society isn't wholly secular. Not yet anyway.
If a clerk says "Happy Holidays" to me, I call Reverend Phelps and tell him that there is a possible...er...Liza Minnelli fan working the register at said store and I ask that he and his loving, caring and compassionate family come over to picket that store.
Just kidding. I merely ignore it figuring that the underpaid, underappreciated and overworked clerk is a corporate slave who is discouraged from thinking and acting like a regular human. The clerk probably really wants to say "Merry Christmas" (since 92% of us Merrikans celebrate Christmas), but is afraid to lose their job.
Folks, it is Christmas: not Ramadan. Not Kwanzaa. Not Solstice.

My response is "Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you too". There's no need to overreact in our response. There's nothing wrong with saying "Happy Holidays", "Seasons Greetings", or "Merry Christmas". Or, for that matter, "Happy Christmas", if you're in certain parts of the world. There's no need to by hypersensitive about one's holiday greeting.

I don't really expect the world to 'get it' so Happy Holidays does not offend me.
It depends on who and where.
I say Merry Christmas around Christmas, I say Happy Holidays around Thanksgiving and after Christmas or specify the holiday if I know the person and what they are celebrating. (New Year's, Hanukkah, etc..)
However, a lot of people are now offended by anything other than Merry Christmas even if it's Thanksgiving or New Year's Day, so I don't bother with saying much of anything to anyone.
Ya know, half the time, no matter what time of year, it's not worth the hassle to try to communicate with anyone on anything more than a very casual basis because they're either gonna use it against you or be offended.
No wonder computers are a much more popular form of communication.

There is no problem. There is no "War on Christmas". Merchants have customers who celebrate a variety of holidays during December/January. Why not be inclusive, and wish them all well. Of course, the hypersensitive will find any excuse to take offense, even an at innocuous, friendly greeting. And do not many Christians celebrate Christmas and New Year's? Looks like "holidays" to me.
I have to disagree...there IS a war on it, and people will use the "I'm offended" card to get people to take Christ out of it. Christmas songs are being rewritten and there are many who want there to still be a holiday on Christmas, but without Christ, rather than celebrating a different one or just not celebrating Christmas if they don't believe in Jesus.
The rest is true...there are different holidays, but don't let that blind you to what's going on with Christianity in this country, and taking Christ out of the most widely recognized holiday here is just part of it.
That's exactly the problem. You assume that a person who says "Happy Holidays" is taking Christ out of Christmas. That's a heck of an assumption.
If you go back and read my first post on this thread, you'll find that you assumed what my assumption was. :tonofbricks:
