Kindle

Kindle has a pc version if you are interested.

We had the Franklin e-readers and have used ppc's that we read on.

I've messed with the Sony and it is nice. Target has them if you want to get an idea what the readers are like. Barnes and Noble have a new one out also, I'd look at specs and see what you like best.

Some do .pdf and .doc files as well if you have any use for that.

If you read lots I'd think they would be great.

 

My daughter has an original Kindle and loves it. I haven't messed with it, but the readability of the text was very good.

 

I have been looking at them. I wanted to wait until the sony 900 came out, but I think Santa is looking at the 600 for Christmas as the prices come down.


The B&N Nook has been getting terrible reviews the last few days.

I-Touch

I have really enjoyed downloading books and reading them on my I-Touch.

I'd go with a netbook personally, they can do sooooo much more. Mine is about the same size as a kindle, just thicker. I have E-sword and a ton of resources, MS Office, couple other Bible programs and can get online anywhere there is a hotspot for full net use.

If you are going to carry something that big a netbook allows for anything you want to do, not just reading.

Price isn't a lot more right now. Most are in the 300 area.

If you really just want to read, the readers are nicer due to lightness/size.

There are more books on paper than will be put onto digital format (for a long time)~~and there are too many of us out there that won't buy a book that needs batteries or can get dropped and broken...clumsy, that's me.:laugh:

I have many times more electronic books that I ever did printed. I've sorted/given away books many times over the years and am down to very few anymore. Don't even have room on my desk for them anymore, have to sit them in my lap if and when I use one. :thumbs:

 

I wrote an essay about the future of libraries for my current MLS class, but I'm not offering it to the public unless I get a good grade on it

 

There is a small city to the north of Salem that is closely tied to Salem for services and their citizens have to use our library.

Keizer a couple of years ago announced that they wanted to start their own library but due to costs they thought is smart to start an elibrary. I don't know how far they got with the plan but the citizens were excited.

They were going to rent ereaders at low cost and check out the books. They were going to have hard books as well, but the emphasis was to be ebooks.

I think it will be the wave for small communities that can't raise funds for the normal.
