Cafés in churches

Not necessarily. I don't think it's up to us to automatically judge something different as worldly and wrong. We shouldn't judge the motives of other people's hearts just because they aren't stuck in tradition.

In my experience it wouldn't be needed, because we have a small church and lots of other opportunities outside of church to drink coffee or fellowship. This wouldn't work with the appalachian culture here, but I cannot speak for other, larger churches. If being all things to all men wins some, I cannot condemn them.

After reading the other thread about eating out after church on Sunday, I wonder if having a church-run cafe would help eliminate some of the problems talked about in that thread. It's something to think about, anyway.

I disagree with the bolded, enlarged portion of your post. (UNless you are strictly talking about the area you are in..) because South Parkersburg Baptist church has a very effective cafe ministry. (This is the church I was talking about in an earlier post our state convention was held there a couple yrs ago, and I LOVED the internet cafe between services!)... So it does work in WV.

Having a coffee house inside a church is only an attempt to be like the world to reach the world. Sad, really, yet the masses will just about do anything in the name of "evangelism.'

Ed - would you consider the gathering a church service when Jesus fed the 5,000?

And your evidence or Scripture to support this would be?????

And your evidence from Scripture to have a coffee house in a church is found where? When did the Great Commission or the ministry of the church become providing a "Starbucks experience"? And please defend this specific practice from Scriptural mandate which commands that churches should have a "coffee house" in their "church". Dear friend, the burden of proof is on those would include this as part of a biblical ministry.

Do you have pews in your church? I hope not because it's not in Scripture.

However, Scripture tells us that the early church often met together and "broke bread" and fellowshipped.

No where did I say that we are commanded to have a coffee house in their church but to offer coffee and a snack is not a sin nor is it against the Word of God.

Actually, I was speaking strictly of the are where I live. This town has it's own "culture" so to speak. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

That's interesting info, Tim!

I wouldn't like it during the service.. what I have seen is a separate room like starbucks, and an internet cafe, that is open before services and after services, for members to fellowship throughout the day.

I like my big Gulp in church.

I Big Gulp is yummy! So do mock the Lord Jesus by purchasing one on The Lord's Day?

HUH??? Can you use some more words to make the sentences make sense? I have no idea what you're saying. In the first sentence, you are a big gulp?? In the second, what's the subject??

So I assume you do not buy the Sunday or Monday edition of the paper, you never buy gas on Sunday

You sound like that no business transaction should take place on Sunday. Even the opponents of Christ tried to trick Christ about healing on Saturday.

So except for going to church, you come straight home, correct? Of course your church is with in a distance of Biblical stand ands from your home ( that would be about one mile)

You follow ALL Blue laws to the extreme - and no I am not joking about this.
