Can an American Expat homeschool in the UK?

    I'm interested in this question. I would like to continue homeschooling my kids even if we live in the UK.

    This is what that site said

    So since I'm an expat and my kids were never enrolled in the government school am I required to jump through any hoops?

    I don't believe you would encounter any problems with home schooling. Wife's brother works for the Canadian Embassy, and spent some time in England, under the Canadian government. Their children attended a public (private) school and had no difficulties with their private studies which included Canadian history and other Canadian oriented studies. When they finished three years there they wrote Canadian high school exams.
    They have had no difficulties living in many foreign countries and doing a lot of self-study.

    Not sure, years ago I think it was not allowed but it might have changed.

    Wish I was home taught, I had a terrible time in school in Cardiff, Wales, UK

    Godless environment.

    If I move back it will probably be East Anglia. However, I remember taking the bus one day from Huntingdon to Peterborough and near Saltry we picked up school kids who were on their way home. They had quiet conversation and were well behaved. I almost laughed allowed on the bus because American kids are loud and would be play fighting, putting gum in the hair of some one, etc.... So I was rather impressed by the demenor of the English kids. On the other hand English school system is considerably more liberal than the american system (even though we're liberal too). I want my kids to have a more conservative spin and hold to the principles of the founders of the United States because I think the early american documents were (to use a common English expression) brilliant!
    If I lived in Wales and could afford it I would leave Cardiff and move north to Betws-y-coed or around there. At least to the place I remember.

    Yes it's nice and rural up there, with a great Christian heritage.

    John Elias worked up that way and other great people from the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist revival.

    Probably cheaper to live up that way too!

    David, I didn't know you were a taffy. I am an East Londoner (cockney) but went to a public Anglican boarding school in Llanelli, Wales. My mother was born in Swansea. We always considered Cardiff an outreach of England. Do remember, my schooling was under the old system, having completing form school in 1945. Form 6 was one's entry into Oxford or Cambridge universities.

    Our school was very academic and one advanced according to his ability. We majored in languages, German, Latin, French and English. I also majored in history. Maths were horrible for me. I got good grades, but it took horrendous effort.

    I think there is a huge difference in the school system to-day. My masters walked with a rod, and was quick to use it. To-day, they would prolly be arrested!

    Cardiff boy here, very feral till I got saved at 20 years, hated school, got kicked out of my French class, now I live here :) My family, mum and 4 brothers still live there, no one a Christian I might add. I speak French, and a few others but my French is the best.

    My mum and dads side were all Welsh speaking but because they moved to Cardiff it sort of got dropped from us kids.

    I speak a bit to be polite but will learn it fluently soon, once I sort things here in France.
    It's probably important too as I wish to return one day and get involved with my local village Christian fellowship, Llanishen Evangelical. I feel that I owe them and the people of Llanishen. Great place but quite godless.
