    Actually, I don't think this verse applies here. The passengers of that plane knew they were going to die anyways. They could have said they didn't care and let the plane crash in DC - but they courageously took evasion action.

    A more precise example would be a GI falling on a grenade to save his buddies. In that case he would have the choice of surviving and letting his comrade's die, or become a sacrifice himself.

    The "friends" that Todd Beamer and others died for weren't on the plane. They were on the ground. They gave their lives and many lived because of it.

    True -many on the ground were saved - but the fact remains they lives were doomed to begin with
