My husband is a bi-vocational pastor and was just terminated from his second job after 20 years. We both feel God is moving us on and he is submitting his resume for a full time pastorate. We are willing to go wherever God is calling and are excited about it.

Does anyone have any knowlege of job resources for pastoral positions?

Depending on what denomination you belong to, you can access your associational and/or state office.

I would not submit my resume for full time pastorates just because your husband lost his secular job. Money is not a reason to seek a pastorate. This sort of "pink slip calling" is tenuous at best. Slow down and seek the face of God before jumping into something that you all may not be expecting.

This assumes he has no other FT experience. Right now, FT pastorates are hard to come by. The economy has caused churches to drop to bivo, and keeps most bivo/FT pastors at their churches. I know many D.Mins/PhDs right now who have gone 3+ yrs w/o a church. It's tough.

I know this may not be what you want to hear, but it's meant to help you from all manner of trouble.

This is very good advice for you to pray on. If you are SBC the conventions web site has a job search for different positions. Sometimes the Lord can lead you to be an associate in a larger Church also. I'll be praying for your situation.:praying::jesus:

    Yabbut...

Being able to survive is a factor but not the only one. On $150 a week church salary, he would have to find another secular job (which is doesn't want) or we couldn't survive - period. I didn't give the full scope of WHY we know God is in this, but please believe me, He is. We have prayed long and hard about the "full time" ministry for quite a while.

As for not having full time experience? He has. Many years ago in New York in another denomination.

Thanks for the comment. I understand your concern. We will simply trust the Lord - I never look at statistics when I put the matter in the hands of God. We have a pretty good connection. :godisgood:

Thank you. Gary went to see the head of missions today in our regional district. He is also a personal friend.

We are SBC, but wouldn't limit ourselves to that since most Baptist churches are autonomous anyway.

Well, again, the praying has been and is being done. We have no problem with an associate pastorship either. Just waiting on the Lord. Will keep everyone updated. This will be an interesting journey and, I believe, could turn out to be an encouragement for the forum.

PS, if you like you could always come up north to the Salt City (actually the knife village).

Thanks to those who offered advice. I want to clarify something...

For around eight years my husband has been faithful to lead a small church (population of the town is around 350) and we love the people here and they seem to love us. Unfortunately, many are over 80 years old and we have lost several in the past few years - core members.

We have felt for the past couple of years that God was giving us two more years here and then we were moving on. Things seem to be following HIS plan and sure enough, everything is falling into place. Pastors - don't you know when God is speaking to you? It's time.

We are excited about where the Spirit will lead and praising God every day awaiting the next step.

The former pastor of our church partnered with NAMB to plant a church in our area last year. If this is something of interest, PM me and I will forward you his contact information as I'm sure he has many contacts. As in secular job searching, it's all about networking!

Yes. Please do forward the info. We are looking at every option. I really would appreciate it. We also have been given recommendations from our own regional director of missions as he knows us both. I pray the Lord shuts all doors but the one He wants us to go through.

Another member here, jbarner (I think that's his screen name) came from Arizona to pastor a church in Michigan. Be open to God's leading and be discerning as to whether it is God or your own heart as it is hard to tell when emotions are high (in regard to a call, not the timing as you have made that part clear).

We are looking forward to what God will do, but we aren't emotional about it! LOL! We are in prayerful "wait mode." If it's our "emotions" I guess we will know in the end, huh? I'll keep the board informed.
