I don't think anyone has any problem with the statement you quoted earlier. Dress is and should be a personal issue and not a corporate edict in the church.

Our church is a 'come as you are' church. We have some folks who dress up and some folks who dress down. Some don't dress as nice as I would like but I am learning to focus more on the heart and on the Lord. You legalist
Going and living in the mission field like sister Spinach and her family would convince many of the ridiculousness of some of our so closely held Western prejudices regarding "God's House" and reverence for it. When you get out of your culture comfort you learn that a lot of things that were so necessary 'back home' really count for nothing in reality.
Try the bus ministry, friend, it's a mission field delivered straight to your front door.

Just heard a good man of God preach last night who has people put him down for his high numbers by saying "Oh yeah, and how many of those 700 came in on the buses?"

Numbers means souls in attendence to hear the Gospel, regardless of how they dress. One thing for sure is after they do get saved God starts transforming them in heart and appearance.:godisgood:

What was profane then is profane now.
Yet nothing in the verse references "casual" vs "noncasual" attire.
Show me Scripture that allows you to behave and dress anyway you wish in any atmosphere you wish and when you feel like doing what you want to do in any place you wish.
Since it's YOUR assertion that dress should be difference in church that outside church, and since YOUR assertion is that God commands it, it's YOUR responsibility to show where in scripture God commands it. You've failed miserably to do so.

It's all a matter of respect. You rthink so little of God that he doesn't desrve any better than your casual attire.

You dress like you want to and the same way you would when you go to sports events or camping.

Sports events have most of the attenders so caught up in creature worship and you see no difference in that being profane and that God and his place of worship shouldn't be abny different.

I respect the Scriptures that show me I should be different in a world of compromise
, you do not. It's all a matter of respect.

You have a very low view of Almighty God. That's all I am going to say.

Oh, please, you're guilty of hypocrisy, and I called you on it: You are here bashing people over the head, and then complaing about others being quick to bash somebody over the head. That's hypocrisy by definition.

Which does not excuse you being one.
Call me names all you think you need to, but it doesn't change the spots on you being the leopard either.

Indeed. Levticus 20 was admonishing the people living in Israelite territory (whether Israelite or not) for offering their children as human sacrifices to Molech. It has nothing to do with customs in a church building.
Spiritually speaking many are doing just that today. Don't behave so ignorant, or is it you can't help it?

Wow, and you're cpable of engaging in self-righteousness, too: assuming a "bad attidude" where there is none. Especially when I asked ahead of time if she was okay with me being dressed in gym attire, since I was coming directly from the gym, and she said "sure, no problem". Thankfully, you're not in the position of educationg children. But you can't do that until you graduate from college, and you can't do that until you are done with high school.
It's all a matter of being a gentleman to shower before meeting a lady. That would have inconvenienced you, but you could have rescheduled the appointment. That is not self-righteousness, it's called decency.

Really? Show me where in scripture Christian duty" is defined as "dressing up" for a parent teacher conference.

You've already made a hypocritical post, and a self-rightous one. Are you sure you want to add a pharisaical post on top of that?
Like I said, call all the names you wish, that doesn't change the fact that God expects his people to go the extra mile in all matters of life's principles and practices.

You want to debase all Christianity to the world's level of indecency and lack of good morals and behavior.

Until you show something to indicate otherwise you leave us all to come to no other conclusion.

I see common sense is not one of your stronger points.

I can't help you, go bark up another tree.

I'd thrown you out and told you until you showed more respect towards some one trying to educate your son he would benefit little because his daddy has a bad attitude.

No wonder so many teachers have cowled down in the last few years, they have to deal with volatile parentas all the time just so they can maintain their hope in reaching today's children.

All you've done is prove that this world is getting farther and farther away from Christian duty and integrity.

Go ahead and be just like the world, the devil expects you to.

Are you serious?? SERIOUSLY?????? A parent comes to a parent teacher conference - let me say that again A PARENT COMES TO A PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE - and you'd toss them out? Unbelievable. Can you show me where the law states that you are to go to a parent teacher conference dressed up? Because I haven't seen that anywhere. Unbelievable.

What do I have to do, train you in the Scriptures?

Lev 20:3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.
Lev 21:6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, [and] the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.
Lev 21:7 They shall not take a wife [that is] a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he [is] holy unto his God.
Lev 22:2 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name [in those things] which they hallow unto me: I [am] the LORD.
Lev 22:15 And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the LORD;
Lev 22:32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I [am] the LORD which hallow you,
Eze 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed [difference] between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
Eze 44:23 And they shall teach my people [the difference] between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
Amo 2:7 That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the [same] maid, to profane my holy name:

I know, I know, this is O.T., but the same sanctuary is spoken of.

Go on and deny these all you wish.

What happened when the veil was torn?
The Sanctuary of God moved from the temple into the hearts of believers...

NOT a building made by hand.

And since the sanctuary is now in believers, this scripture applies to the hearts of believers...

Not a building made by hand.

Just wanted to point that out.

Well, I suppose dressing with more respect for those educating your kids is unbelievable, especially in today's rebellious attitudes. I wonder if the teacher was dressed in a bathrobe?

I am sure you are not holding your breath on that one...
Just like no one can show anywhere in the Bible that one has to dress up to show reverence to God.

Paul, answer my question a few posts back about the veil. Please...with sugar on top!:tongue3:

So I'll take you to be saying you agree the outside of the temple should be different from the common appearances of the rest of the world. Kudos

when you say you reverence God by dressing up, you make an automatic judgement against those who can not dress up, that they automatically in your preception are not revenrencing God.
Get over it, I've been called a liar here, my family attacked, once I was called a lesbian by a legalist because my hair didn't drag the ground, grow up and stop whining.
I did not personally attack you, but you've been slinging more then a few personal attacks on these two threads. You just can't stand people who aren't legalists, who believe in the grace of God, and not opinions of men, seeking to satisfy the eyes of men instead, ignoring the heart.

Goodbye, Donna, I have nothing else to say to you. I have tried to make you understand that it is my viewpoint from my prayers and studies. I believe in the grace of God, so I am asking you now to leave me alone and stop being ugly to me. May you someday see the error of your way of dealing with people.

Oh - you're right. He was being totally rebellious by making time to see the teacher, asking if his attire was acceptable and then showing up. :BangHead:

Reading this thread I find it ironic that the people that don't like to dress up appear to be more judgmental of those that do like to dress up rather than the other way around.

It is true there is no scriptural support a person must "dress up" for church, but there is clearly no scriptural support against it also. Like everything else it is a heart issue, and I won't presume to know another persons heart. If a person feels convicted by the Holy Spirit to dress in a certain manner that is their business and they shouldn't be attacked for doing so. And this is a public forum for discussions, everyone should have the freedom to respond how they personally feel about a topic being discussed. People shouldn't be criticized for their views, and that should go for both sides of an issue.

AMEN! Thank you.

Yep - we're clothed in His righteousness - that the world doesn't get to wear. So we're good in jeans, shorts or a tux.

What behavior do you change when you cross the threshold into the church building? Does one suddenly become courteous, when they were not before?

As I walk in the door, I thank God for the freedom to assemble together and worship. I start leaving my "luggage" and focusing on the purpose at hand and the reason I got in my car and drove here....to worship and praise God and hopefully help lead someone to Christ. Yes, I can do those things anywhere else, but why do I go to church? To set aside a specific time to do these things with others.

THAT is why I elevate my demeanor and dress. It is special to me.

I want to publicly apologize to dcorbett for my attitude. There were times I posted in anger, and should not have done so. It started in the Super-bowl thread and spilt over into the other 2 threads. I felt that she was judging those of us that have had superbowl parties in the past. But even if she was I should not have reacted the way I did. I judged what was in her heart and mind.

I crossed the line from debate to making it personal.

And for that I am sorry dcorbett.

Thank you, Brother. I accept your apology and we go on from here. :1_grouphug:

Now that makes much better sense to me. It's not what *I* would call a behavior change since I veiw behavior as an outward action. *I* would call that an attitude change caused by a change in my focus from earthly cares to Godly things. And not at all what I thought you were saying.
