What is the proper etiquette for thanking someone for a gift? Is it a verbal thank you, an email or pm, or only a handwritten note? Does it matter?

I would find an email to be too impersonal. I think what is best is a quick phone call, then followed up by a handwritten note. If the giver took time to shop (or make) a special gift, then taking a few moments to hand write a note should not be out of the question.

Now may I propose a second situation. Suppose you sent a gift, and heard nothing - how long should you wait before asking the receiver, if the gift actually arrived at its designation?

Salty, I never received the gift.

I would certainly send a hand written thank you note. I might even call.

How long would I wait with no recognition? Depends on the person I sent the gift to.

I think it depends on who gave it to you! If it's someone you correspond with by email anyway, then I think email is fine. There are some really cute cards you can send by email too.

If you see them regularly, I'd thank them in person - and depending on the relationship follow up or not with a note.

That's how I feel, too. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't committing a boo-boo by emailing a thank-you to someone I correspond with by computer.

I think there was a recent post on the holy kiss thing. In France we kiss a lot :) Mostly it's to women, both cheeks, and a third time if they are very close to us. Even as men we do it. Family and close friends, must admit I found it odd at first being a Brit. Now it's a delight. I love very much all my close friends.

Judas did a very bad thing by kissing Jesus knowing what was in his heart.
