So, my husband has done his first funeral and he's done an awesome job. But now he had a question and asked me and I had an idea but wanted to see what you pastors thought.

We knew this man from our yacht club and both he and my husband are/were avid sailors. So this man is being cremated (they went to the crematorium this morning) and Saturday, they will sprinkle his ashes in the harbor where this man was the Dockmaster for the village. Funny enough, while it's technically "illegal", we're going out on the police boat to do the ashes.

So hubby asked what would be appropriate for him to wear to do this. I don't necessarily think a suit would be right but thought of maybe going a bit "nautical" - tan khakis, white polo shirt, navy blue jacket. What do you think? Or should he go with a suit and tie? He COULD do the khakis, white dress shirt, yacht club tie and navy jacket. Hmmmm...... thoughts?

You can always ask the family/friends what they think. I would go the more casual style without the tie. I think that is the normal attire for "lawbreakers" :tongue3:

My, my, what problems you have! I agree with Tom--khakis, white polo shirt and blue jacket.

His daughter has no idea and his wife and step-daughter are from Brazil - the customs are quite different there!

LOL - I know. We were kind of uncomfortable with the legality of it but since we're not doing the sprinkling - the POLICE are, I guess it's OK. ROTFL

Since it is illegal maybe a disquise so the townsfolks don't see a pastor breaking the law?

Maybe with an Obama mask then nothing would seem out of the ordinary. :)

Go casual. Khakis and a polo will suffice. No point in wearing a blazer.

The ashes sprinkling worked out well. Hubby wore the khaki pants, white polo and navy blazer, and I wore black slacks, white sweater and black jacket. The family actually was in jeans so we felt we dressed appropriately but not too much. We stood on the dock while the harbormaster/police took the ashes past the dock and then out to the mouth of the harbor to sprinkle them. So none of us were on the boat with him. But it was a sweet time, hubby did a great job with today and ALL of the funeral. The family was very grateful and I'm glad that we were able to help them as much as we did.

Now he's preaching tomorrow after not preaching for a few years. We just have too many pastors. :) But he needs to be ready since he'll be preaching more often once we start this new church!
