Every Season

    Recently our church choir did a choral presentation of The song Every Season not without discussion and controversy. The reason being whether the song was merely allegorical or an association with the doctrine of Panentheism.
    Panantheism (also spelled Panentheism)
    Panantheism is a term coined by Karl C. F. Krause (1781-1832, and used by proponents of creation spirituality to express the belief that God is immanent in all created being – although God is not limited to the created world. Simply put: all is God, but God is above all.
    This contrasts with the Christian view that God created the world distinct from Himself. Fallen humanity and the evil it unleashed on the world are not God’s creation.
    I personally believe that the song is too near panentheism then our belief in the creation.Let me say that you people that are associated with the music programs in our churches are faced with a bigger challenge then the pastures. Satan knows that it is much easier to attack us with music then with the Word. (What was the greaest tool in establishing a drug culture in our youth? Beetles, Jefferson Airplane Rolling Stones, the list goes on and on.

    Yep, it all has its roots in that evil beat that the African slaves brought to the West hundreds of years ago.

    Sag is just messin wid ya. Every topic here in the music forum eventually ends up with someone throwing out a comment or two about beats, africa, and satanic rythms. Sag is just getting it there faster ;-)

    Being 77 years old I have seen music go through a few changes although I have my preferance I can accept it except when it comes to misleading or is contrary to scripture. Allegory should have or be inline with the truth.

    There is an earlier song that speaks of being reminded of God through natural wonder....

    When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
    Psalms 8:3-4 KJV

    Pantheism states that God is IN all things. I took the song you posted to say that all things reminded the writer of God. Quite a difference IMHO.

    Ouch I'm from Africa...If you guys had left us here and not wanted to enslave us you'd be fine...you brought it on yourselves...PAYBACK!:love2:

    Oh yes, about the song...I don't see what the fuss is about I've seen and heard far more heretical contemporary Christian choruses and songs sung in churches today!

    As I was reading these words I could picture some High School choir singing this in their program.

    It's not a song that I would have chosen. I like music (of many styles) that is overtly Christian. Just my opinion.

    So thankful I am a part of a church family that uses song to worship God and not to make controversial statements ABOUT him. What a waste of time.

    I love this song, although I may not have used it with my choir. The song reminds me in my private listening and worship of the omnipresence of God. Having experienced these "seasons" in my own life, I can attest to the fact that He is making all things new with every passing season. I like the writer, as most of her lyrics are deeper than alot of Contemporary Christian music. A poet for sure.
