"Maybe we could get more choir members to join if the seats were more comfortable!"

    Would you be tempted to

    A. Gently toss a cup of kool-aid at them and hope it stained their clothes.

    B. Go home and spend the next three days praying they weren't serious.

    C. Wonder if they were thinking about the elderly or infirm and think they might just have a good point.

    D. Tell them to bring a cushion from home.

I would say, "We have seats for the choir? Really?"

I'd say "We have a choir??

We have a worship team and they don't sit. When they are finished, they go off stage and sit in the seats with the congregation. Actually, only 3 members of my husband's worship team sits: the drummer, the guitar player (he has a very bad back and can't stand for a long time) and about half the time, my husband (he has a terribly injured/poorly repaired foot which causes constant pain). My hubby prefers to stand but there are times he just needs to sit down so he has his stool.

I'd say, "Choir? Why are you going to the early service? Come to the 11 am service instead (where we have no choir, but a worship team instead). Similar to Ann's church, they leave the stage when they are through leading the worship.

I would sorely be tempted to do A. In fact, that's what I'd be thinking about for the next three days.

But I would probably do D. I would actually go up in the choir loft and sit on on of the seats and test it out for myself. If it were uncomfortable, I would do what Cutter said and tell them to bring a cushion from home.

If the the seats were nice and comfy, then I would tell them that if God were convicting them about joining the choir, then they had better meditate on it and do it and stop using excuses and if God wasn't convicting them about joining the choir, then perhaps they could make a donation (or at least start a fundraiser) and buy new choir seats since they seem to take those seats as their personal business.
(You know me, I'm wordy and peek into everyone's business.)

None of the above. I would swap the choir chairs out with the padded pews and place the uncomfortable chairs in the pew's place. That way, the congregation will be sure to stay awake during the sermon and the choir members seated behind the preacher will be too embarrassed to fall asleep as everyone can see them sitting there.

That could be something to do just for fun! LOL!

It was a choir member who mentioned this. He could have been joking. Or serious. I dunno, but it got me thinking about it. I'm sure there are people who suffer horrid things just to be able to get together and worship, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy and appreciate our ability to have better things. On the other hand, would you WANT someone in a choir that only would join if the seats were better? On the other other hand, what if we took that extra money and instead of improving on what we already have, spent it on people who don't have?

What if I quit analyzing every single detail in life? Would THAT be easier? *sigh*

Personally, I would consider it as a possibility. However, if someone is serious about serving the Lord and using the talent that God blessed them with, the chairs or pews used wouldn't stop them from doing that. I never thought any choir seats were all that uncomfortable, and I was there to glorify God and not for my own comfort.

I do agree, however, that all seating in a church should be comfortable since that reflects on how much the people will pay attention. If they're thinking about how uncomfortable they are, they are not keeping their thoughts on praise and worship or listening to the preaching.

You people forget the biblical admonition, which does apply when one is in an uncomfortable chair.

    "Turn the other cheek."

Maybe you should ask them what they meant.
Seriously, some chairs can be very uncomfortable for people with certain back conditions.
So I guess I would go with C.
