Mrs Salty would like to subscribe to a mobile home magazine.

Does anyone know of such a magazine?

If you took the axles off, it ain't MO-bile no more. There's hundreds of magazines for home owners. Now you can go to Lowes and Home Depot for no apparent reason.

Actually, our salesman is Pentencostal, and told us if we wanted to all we had to do was to lay hands on the trailer hitch, and it will move even without tires.:saint::flower:

Living in the great white north is not like pulling a mobile home into a lot in a milder climate. We chose a mobile home when we first moved to the countryside in Ontario.

The first thing we learned was that the water supply line froze in winter and that the floors were very cold. We raised the home and rested it on railway ties, then removed all the tyres. We dug a trench, four feet deep, to run line from well to mobile. The pipe was wrapped in 4 inch foamboard where it left ground and entered the trailer about half way along trailer.

We then installed 4 inch foamboard in 4x8 sheets on an angle extending 4 feet out from home and up to floor level to prevent winds and cold from affecting the floor. This foamboard was covered with soil and seeded with grass.

Next came the windows. Whilst the company stated the windows were designed for window,,,,,,,they weren't. We found a window company to make windows that met the Canadian winter demands.

Then it was like living in any home built for the cold. One other thing we did was frame a roof. The metal roof was designed to move with the winds, but this was a nuisance for us, hence the solid framed roof. We were exposed the the winds because we are on the top of a hill.

All the best, Salty. Your winter is much the same as ours.

    Cheers,

    Jim

There was such a magazine long time ago but now they are classified as "park models" of RV trailers or as factory built homes. Read someplace that factory built are half of all new housing starts.

google modular homes or factory built homes.

For what it is worth, my kid, the builder, says a factory made costs less than he can buy the materials for an equivalent stick built house. Almost convinced The Wife we should get a Marlette but it didn't fly.
