Did Alabama deserve to be dropped all the way down to #10 in the polls? They did lose pretty handily to SC but I would, in no way, write Bama out just yet. And, that coming from a true Auburn fan who pulls for two things when it comes to college football. I pull for Auburn and anyone who is playing against Bama.

I don't know, it is still early. What I was reading a little while ago was the Tide was ninth and the Gamecocks are tenth but different polls I'm sure will place them differently.

That seems a bit much. Maybe a little "voters remorse" about placing them that high to start with? I can't recall a #1 getting dropped that much after just one loss. Then again, not a lot of movement in the other ten as such. Very interesting.

Maybe the voters are trying to give the fans a TCU or a Boise in the title game.

In this morning's paper the Tide was 8th in the AP and USA Today poll, the Gamecocks were 10th in the AP pool and 12th in the USA Today poll. It is still early, many more changes are to come.

I was looking at ESPN about 2:00PM on Sunday. It reported that on the AP poll Alabama was #10. I know one thing. I loved seeing all the SEC teams who are in the top 25.

I think when a team has been #1 for a while, and they fall--it seems to me (totally unscientific, and simply my own opinion here) that voters seem to "enjoy" knocking them down a few notches.

It seems like I've seen this happen with other teams before. Doesn't happen that often, because let's face it: not many teams stay on top that long.

    Other factors:

-I wonder if this was "punishment" by the voters who saw Alabama beat Arkansas...but (and I'm an AL fan) let's face it: without Mallett's "help," I don't think Alabama wins that game.
-I think Alabama's exposure has worked against them here. All their weaknesses exposed.

I'll be quite interested to see how Greg McElroy (QB) responds: This is his first loss of a team he has lead since middle school.

Rbell, I think you hit some salient points. The media loves to tear down what they loved building up to start with.

College football rankings make no sense anymore. The fact that there are preseason polls...blows my mind. Ranking teams before they play a game is silly.

Wait a month, then rank teams.

That said, the new trend in polling (the last 6-7 years) has been the being undefeated is better than having a loss. And while there are times that is true, it doesn't always apply.

Polls should be set up in the order of who is the best. Is Missouri really better than Alabama? Michigan State?

What Voters? Some might want that (finally hoping to jack up the BCS), but most don't want to see TCU and Boise play for the third straight year.
