A good thread and a good post

Oh, that hurts. Prohibit padre? Why that would be like breakfast without orange juice, Burns without Allen, zippity without doo-da.

A good thread would be one that you are interested in and has well-reasoned discussion between the participants. I run from threads that quickly dissolve into retorts that use words like Strawman and Semi-polygamist by page 2. The only thing worse than a reply that runs on forever is the reply that quotes the entire wordy post and adds Yup! and a smiley face.

A thread with a title and only a link in the body of the OP disinterests me immediately. Give a synopsis of the article and your reason for sharing it with the rest of the class.

A great thread would mock cat owners and make fun of Salty's driving.

 

:thumbsup: Agree. I'm also afraid to click on any link to some obscure blog or "news" service that some people post.

 

Just some observations in my short time here:

(1) I enjoy reading Jim1999's posts (I think that's the guy from Canada?) he is alway short and to the point, and always makes a good point.

(2) I hate reading posts where its obvious someone just cuts and paste a whole lot of stuff, and on one page you have like two actual posts.

(3) I won't name names, but it annoys me to read posts where people use oversize fonts or different colors.

(4)Salty you seem to start a majority of the threads here, so you my friend percentage wise, have the greatest chance of creating a good thread. :type:

(5)I get burnt out on the CAL/Non Cal threads alot, where it seems to be the same handful of people bickering over the same things. Sometimes there are new nuggets to consider from each point of view, but for the most part its the same ol same ol.

(6)If I read a thread that has just been started but seems promising, and say check back a few hours later and its jumped to about 5 or 6 pages its probably a pretty good thread,but at that point I'm out of the loop and don't have the patience to read the whole thing.

 

Just the facts backed with scripture

 

It depends on each person. Some say I like to ramble. Sometimes I do.

There are both posters and regular readers to Christians some like to shoot the breeze, some up a storm.

Things can be vague. You’re looking at the surface of the water but what is underneath the water? I try to go below and then sometimes got to be funny. As Jesus might have said if the threads have lost their taste where is Salty to give the threads flavor unless Salty is useless and trampled over like a rug? Have flavor like the Salty your funny parables. :laugh:

 

I echo what Thousand Hills said. I've started avoiding threads started by a few certain posters because they almost always turn out to be calv/arm debates with the same people saying the same thing 100 different ways. Same goes with posts where a huge percentage is a "quote" that resembles a novel instead of a true post. If I wanted to read a book I wouldn't be on the computer!

Say what you need to say in a paragraph or two, and do it without resorting to personal attacks or degrading another poster.

The best posts, of course, are those that agree with me!

 

Sloppy spelling and grammar in serious posts leads me to believe the poster doesn't take their thoughts and logic seriously enough to bother with, so why should I?

To catch my attention, a post needs a title that interests me. If I'm unfamiliar with the poster then I often don't bother unless the title captures my attention.

User names can help decide stuff too. If someone names "I Hug Puppeez" posts a topic discussing tautology and causality, I'm just gonna go get a grape popsicle and finish deciding whether we should have a vegetarian dinner or include lamb.

The post should bring up an emotion. I try to refrain from responding to posters who only bring up negative emotions, but sometimes I cannot refrain. The most recent one concerned a lady whose story I reported on and a large number of people worked to make sure her story went to the press and everyone knew her name and situation. The poster made a false statement about it being "unknown" and as I typed the post, the thread was closed and the truth still not proclaimed. That made me so mad! Stating a blatant lie with no excuse is automatically something that makes that poster not worth reading anymore.

I have one person on my ignore list and although I've enjoyed the majority of his posts, his blatant hatred for Jews hasn't changed over the years and claws it nasty way to surface and irks me. In other words, being a racist who hates Jews and claims to follow Christ makes you just a little unbelievable. DUH

That's about it! Leave out stupidity, lies, and racism, and you've probably got a decent post. Unless it's just plain boring. Like ones about tautlogy and causality. LOL
