How does one minister to them?

    Here's a few ideas.
    • offer to do some housekeeping
    • bring them food, possibly putting some easy-to-heat-up meals in their freezer
    • if they can't come to church, go to their house with a couple of the SS members and have Bible study and go over the SS lesson
    • call them just to talk
    • love on them
    • encourage other to love on them
    • don't patronize them or be in a morose attitude when you are around them
    • encourage them to read some good books or take them some good movies to watch
    • take them to the library or the park, if they are able to get out of the house
Ministering to people in need offers endless opportunities.
The pianist at my mother's church just lost her hair due to chemo treatments. She had both breasts removed and now her hair is gone. When she came home from Houston, the ladies at my mother's church went to her home for just a short welcome home and have her a "hat party". They waited until she felt like it and surprised her greatly with turbans and hats.

Much of what Scarlett said. We just had one of our deacons die of cancer - just an 11 week battle. There was lots of this list going on.

A great blog I can highly recommend for everyone - not just pastors - is http://practicalshepherding.com/ It's a great blog of just practical care of the flock. VERY great stuff and there's lots of things in here about hospital visits and such.
