Just wanted to share. It's a lousy video because I just quickly threw my camera on my notebook, started videoing and then had to run the computer for the words. So visually, it's a bit weird. It's definitely not the best quality but I'm still proud of my daughter and her heart for worshipping the Lord and I think these two work together pretty well. Of course hubby's harmonies are loud because, well, my husband is loud. What you hear is not on the microphone - it's just him. LOL But that's him with the guitar so he's close to the camera. :)

(oh - this is not the daughter who was sick but the next one down - she's 18)

We chose not to have "special music" in our services for just this reason.

To avoid performances like the one in the video. Don't get me wrong, we have concerts and things like "Fifth Sunday Sing" where we do things like this, but the corporate worship service, particular the AM service, is for corporate worship, not performances.

While the girl in the video does manage to stay on key at several points throughout the song (can't say the same for the guy banging away on the guitar), it isn't "leading worship", as the title suggests.

This is not special music. This is the corporate worship. I was sitting in the very front running the computer and since it's a cheap little camera, the quality isn't great but you can hear the other 30+ people singing behind me.

    It's a performance.

It's not unlike the National Anthem. There was a time when the National Anthem was meant to be sung corporately. Nowasays, it's a performance piece and they don't even show the words up on the scoreboard anymore.

Some of us still sing along, but it's clear that the focus is on the performer down on the field.

How do you know it isn't leading worship? Can you see the condition of the hearts of those who are in the room? You have no idea if people are worshipping or not. I watched the video and it lead me to worship in my own heart just sitting here in my living room.

No, but I can see the actions of the girl singing.

That's true, but I wasn't talking about whether or not people in the audience were worshipping. I was talking about the girl performing.

Don't worry ThatGirl. JohnDeereFan has always been an antagonist against me. I don't listen to his rants because they hold no truth or merit. :)

Just because I don't agree doesn't mean I don't get it. And by the way, isn't that interesting that annsni immediately made herself a victim, particularly when I never even mentioned her? She seems to do that quite a bit.

Annsni- You should be proud of your daughter. She has a nice voice.

    Tacky.

It would have been more gentlemanly had you kept comments like this to yourself.

Thanks! I wish we could afford voice lessons for her but it's just not in the cards. She did well in high school chorus and learned a lot there and now it's just using her gift for worshipping God. She's certainly not perfect but she has a heart purely for the Lord. She actually is shy about getting in front of people and won't look out at the congregation because she gets nervous. :) She and my husband will be leading worship again this week with another woman. I wish I was around to get a video of them practicing but maybe I can get a better video this week if I have my son do the taping. I tried to have my older daughter do it but she was singing too and the camera picked her up more than the singing in the congregation. Then I had a friend try to do it and he was all about the artsy thing of it so there was a lot of zooming, focusing on different things like the screen and stuff. I'd rather just try to get a decent video of the church worshipping but it's just hard. Oh well!!

As for following me, if you mean the blog, I'm such a bad blogger. I have gone weeks and months without blogging but I really want to pick that up. I've got to put together the story of my daughter's illness and healing but I just need the time to put that together. It's a great testimony to the Lord's faithfulness and how we can be a witness even in the midst of hardship. :)
