Sara and I are on the Oasis of the Seas out of Port Everglades on October 29.

    Anyone else scheduled?

Nope. I did the cruise last year and it cemented one thing in my mind - I'm a land person. It was nice but I didn't love it. I do think if I had time to just do what *I* wanted to do, I might have enjoyed it more but I went with my in-laws and my hubby and kids so I was locked into doing things that made others happy. I really would have loved to sit on my rear for a week and read but that was not in the plan. LOL I DO still want to do an Alaska cruise but that's probably all that I'll ever do in the future.

That said, we still will be doing about 19 days on our sailboat this year. Not sure where we're going (we had planned Martha's Vineyard but decided not to this year) but we will have a nice time anyway. :)

I have what is probably a sinful feeling that any extended time spent with other than immediate family (spouse, children) should not be considered as 'vacation'. Hazardous duty maybe, but not vacation.

When you go to Alaska, it will be unlike anything else. We would go again in a heart beat, but $$$$$. We saved up and stayed in Seattle for 2 days pre-cruise. But Alaska made me see God's amazing power and creativity.

But days spent on a sail boat seem like heaven. Rarely been on one but loved everytime i did.

LOL - FULLY agree with you here! I hate to admit it but 3 days by myself would be a wonderful vacation. I love my family but my idea of vacation is vastly different than theirs!

That's what I've heard. Friends of ours have gone and the husband is NOT a cruise kind of person but he said that was probably the best vacation he's ever done. :) Maybe for our 30th anniversary!

Let me add some reality to you:

    * Water and wind moves - sometimes a lot. Some days are super quiet but other days are horribly bouncy, heeling and rough with lots of seasickness. Forget it when storms come up! Oh and in a thunderstorm, I can't sleep in my bed because my head rests on the 60 foot aluminum mast.

    * I live on a 42 foot boat with 6 people for 19 days. Two daughters who are 21 and 19, a 10 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. I still need to clean, cook and see to the needs of others. Our basic living space is about 38 feet by 10 feet, on average. So 6 of us in 380 square feet. That's it.

    * There are ALWAYS boat issues. Do we have enough water? Is the water pump running? Are the drains working OK? Are the toilets working? Are they full where we need to find a pump out station or boat to clean them out? It's raining and the water is coming in AGAIN. How do we stop that? Uh-oh! We have an engine problem so Dad has to get in and fix that!

It's not heaven. Trust me. We have moments of heaven but that's truly about it. LOL

Wow. Thank God I resisted the urge a few years ago!

19 days... I think you need to start exercising those job delegation skills.

Another reason why I like cruising. They do it all!

I saw this thread and long for another cruise. Last one was in '05 when my wife was pregnant with our first child. She is now pregnant with our third. Maybe I can talk her into going this year. We've only been on the Voyager class with RC...would love to try the Freedom class and Oasis class. The Voyager was big...you will be on a water city with the Oasis

Not yet, though we are looking at it. The benefit of course, is that we don't have to incur travel costs for cruises out of south Florida.

Where does Oasis go? I've only been on RCCL once and it was a definitely older crowd (though I'm getting closer every day).

Do they still do the dinner seatings or have they moved to more "freestyle" like NCL?

I have some friends who recently went on the new Epic and they loved it.

We are going to Labadee (a private beach area in Haiti), Cozumel and Jamaice on our trip. The other itinerary goes to Nassau, St Thomas and St Maarten.

Since i am 60, I now qualify as the older crowd. We've gone carnival, but like RC better.

They have both dinner seatings and what they call "My Time Dining". It's not quite like freestyle, but they have alot of specialty restaurants on board you can go to for a set fee.

I have heard good stuff about Epic too. Maybe we'll try it when we get younger...

This thread needs to be closed...it's causing coveteousness :D

Have a great tim...I love Labadee. Visit the altar where they used to do human sacrifices :)

I cruise twice a year on average (20 in last 10 years). Not THE authority, but AN opinionated twit on anything cruising.

So we went to Alaska in Sept on Celebrity Infinity and had great weather and super experience (altho Celebrity is for "old" people, with far less activities on board than its parent Royal or Princess or [ugh] Carnival or Holland or Norwegian)

My daughter earned a cruise on the same ship, same itinerary and WE took our vacation this year and are sitting here in Wisconsin with grandkids while they cruised. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE??

They returned last night from Seattle and at the picnic today we are looking at the pix. I am envious, but vicariously remembering all we did and saw.

My cruise this year in Sept will be on the Mekong in Cambodia and Vietnam . . and NOT on a cruise ship. Just a ferry as we travel between missions and orphanages.

ABOUT CRUISING? Ask me a question. Go on. I dare you.

Didn't see this until tonight. How did you get that opportunity. Was on the Mekong a few times... but for a far different purpose.
