What was Your First Study Bible, And What is Your favorite One Now?

My first study Bible was the old KJV Open Bible from the mid 70s. It is still open on my desk, but I also use MacArthur NKJV and the ESV Study Bible

 

Never had one.

 

My first bible was a 1769 Cambridge King James Version. I still use that version to-day in all my studies and preaching. I do refer to many other versions, including Greek and Hebrew for ultimate understanding, however, and have made many notations in my copy of the KJV.

My first study Bible was Nelson's KJV Study Bible, and I'm still using it! Most comprehensive study Bible I've ever seen. Worn, marked in, highlighted, duct taped together, and I love it. It's like an old friend.

 

My first study Bible was a Thompson Chain Reference.

I do not currently have, nor use a study Bible.

I use an R.L. Allan NASB in dark brown goatskin. It has cross references and some marginal notes but is not a study Bible.

Pilgrim Study Bible, KJV. Still use it every Sunday at church and is my go-to reference for questions I may have.

 

Once you touch a goatskin from Allan, you'll forget about the calfskin.

My first study bible was a Dake, and I like it, though it's not the best with all the sidenotes......he was waaaay out there on somethings. You could lay it on some train tracks and cause a derailment, its that big.


You could beat someone to death with it, stop a bullitt, use it to get really big arms......

I also have the ESV, and I like it, too. But I mostly use the KJV, Neslon reference bibles. This last CHRISTmas, my mother-in-law bought me the Hebrew-Greek Interlinears by Jay Green. They are dandies.

First, a Ryrie.

Prefer: no study helps, just NASB 1977.

 

Thompson Chain Reference...used it since 1982 [although I finally had to bite the bullet and buy one with larger print ]

 

First- Scofield KJV- is Scofield considered a study Bible? If not then a Ryrie KJV.

Now- ESV study Bible. Excellent notes.

 

I do have a Study Bible after all...

I just remembered I have an NKJV Scofield Edition that has "International Word of Life shield on the lower right corner of the front cover.

Nothing about what International Word of Life is anywhere inside. I googled it and found it's a ministry of Jack Wyrtzen.

Someone left it at the church years ago, and years went by and no one ever claimed it. Rather nice Bible and binding actually.

 

My first Study Bible was a gift a few years after moving to the Philly area: A New Scofield Reference Edition (it has a few notes so I guess that makes it a 'Study Bible').

I found an Old Scofield Study Bible in mint condition (KJV - 1917 "Readers Edition", Oxford, Black leather, black letter) at a bookstore that was going out of business and bought it for $5 - beat that!
It sits on a shelf, never really used it.

I've got NET, NLT and ESV Study notes digitally.
