ESPN had yet another Red Sox/Yankees game on last night as their national game of the week broadcast. Does anyone outside of Boston and New York really want to see these two teams play?

Two reasons why I ask. First is whenever these two teams play the pace of play is at a snail's pace. For example, the game last night took 4 hours and 15 minutes. (It took 10 innings.) The final score was 3-2. Thirteen pitchers were used and 359 pitches were thrown. I watched the first five innings and then couldn't stand it anymore.

The second reason is that both teams are usually in the playoffs, either as the division winner or a wild card team. Thus, there is no suspense as to whether or not they will make the playoffs.

Another reason is that the Yankee players are so well-known that I'm pretty much bored with the whole idea of watching them play.

I understand that both teams are in big TV markets and that both teams have fans scattered throughout the USA, but really, can we please see some other teams play on national TV? There was a Cleveland/Texas game on last night that I would have preferred watching instead of the Yankees/Red Sox. At least there was something at stake in that other game.

    Thoughts?

I HATE both these teams & would love to see Tampa Bay move into 1st & do a repeat with the Phillies.

I watched the game till Shilling left the announcers booth. That was the highlight for me.

The funny thing is nobody inside of Boston or New York cares what anyone else is thinking. We enjoy taking our childish and immature rivalry to the national stage even at the cost of every other team in MLB.

Today the Yanks are a game back. Next week they'll be two games up and the coffee shops will be buzzing about the smallest detail of every game. Then the Yanks will drop a handful in a row and the Bean Boyz will be up a game or two. My neighbor will start buying prayer candles and will pay the priest $25.00 to mention Joe Girardi's name at Saturday Mass.

It's what makes our little world go around.

161 million for a fat pitcher who can hardly cover 1st base just seems wrong.

Hate is too strong a term. Sick, tired and bored is how I describe them. BTW, the Rays are my second fave team in baseball.

The Rays are an interesting team....they perform without those big payrolls.

Thing is, TV's gonna go where the Neilsens say the viewers are. Right now, it's the Yanks-Bosox. Even if the market's limited in geographic area, it's the NUMBER OF VIEWERS that matters. If the Wombats-Blowfish rivalry is gonna bring in 8 million viewers, making Old Kickapoo Brewery happy, that's where TV's gonna go.

Guess hatred brings ratings.....personally the Philly's could kill either of these two....they got the better pitching staff.

You have to respect NY/BOS rivalry if you love baseball, much like you have to respect Ohio St/Mich, Alabama/Tennessee, UCLA/USC if you love college football.

Personally, I think the new rivalry to watch is Cincinnati/St. Louis. A baseball rivalry has to have someone getting ejected, beaned, taunted, etc., for it to be a real rivalry and this one has it all :tongue3:

It's not politically correct to say this anymore, but I love rivalries. LOVE them.

I agree with you. I do respect the NY/BOS rivalry, I just don't want it to be on the national ESPN game of the week five times a year!

EWF, who do you consider to be the Phillies chief rival? The Mets? The Braves?

It seems a crowd comes to watch and play when those two rivals or rivalry comes out.
