No, they were more like a bad cross between the Icelandic sagas and Dr. Seuss.

    Here's a taste:

    http://www.desiringgod.org/resource-library/poems/the-cyrenian-cycle-rufina

". . .Down to the River Jordan, there
    To be baptized. Rufina's hair
Was silver now, and there were signs
Of weakening and age. The lines
Were deep in her dark face, and she
Was bent with years of drudgery,
And widow's work. The five hour hike
    Down from Jerusalem was like
A hundred miles for her. And near
The river she collapsed. For fear
Of being left behind, she tried
    To lift herself alone beside
The road, but couldn't. Women came
And knelt to see if she were lame. . ."

They go on and on like that.

Didn't they use candles in church at night before America was electrified?

All those I turned to red our church participates in..
here is the devotional we will use during lent http://www.waymakers.org/index.php?p=sgftc

Some here are so prejudiced of our Catholic Brothers and Sisters they don't want to worship in any way that would make people associate with them....

I wonder how many use an altar in church.. (a catholic leftover).. or use cantatas.. or even use 66 books in their Bible.. .(the RCC organized our Bible for us).. how many has a cross or candles on our communion table.. and does that cross have IHS on it? What about our wedding traditions...? OOOOPS they are catholic... OR even our graveside services.... yep.. catholic.. How many has a pulpit that sets above the rest of the congregation? What about vespers.. er.. uh.. I mean we need make that Baptist ... how about we call it "Sunday evening services"...

WOW.. I bet you didn't know that when you go to church on Sunday evening, you are participating in a RCC tradition!!! called VESPERS... uh oh..

IF something points to Christ we will use it. Period. I don't care what culture, denomination, or tradition it started in.. we will use it to Glorify God.

Our Church is Orthodox Reformed Baptist....we shy away from most things Catholic but we try not to do anything overtly Anti Catholic. however if it edifies Christ, Im all for it....Red means you wont find it in our Reformed Baptist Church.

Does your Reformed Baptist church "strictly subscribe to the 1689 London Baptist Confession"?

You know, the Confession that says:

"...neither can the Pope of Rome in any sense be head thereof, but is that antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalteth himself in the church against Christ, and all that is called God; whom the Lord shall destroy with the brightness of his coming."

So how many books do the Bibles used in your Reformed Baptist church contain?

We arrange some greenry in a circle, put 4 candle holders in it, put 3 purple and 1 pink candles in the holder and light one of them each week. These materials are all available at Wal-Mart, although you can get the greenry off your shrubs (or you neighbor's shrubs if you do it late at night).

I don't "celebrate Thanksgiving" (sorry, all you Americans :) ). And if by "We" you mean "all baptists", I would have to say that by no means all baptists celebrate the otherf days you mention.

I really cannot understand why you say now that Advent is not a celebration, when in the OP you asked: "Does your church celebrate Advent?"

I apologize, I should have asked if your church observes Advent. It is not a celebration, but rather an observation....a remembrance and looking forward, if you will.

Thanks for that, DiamondLady. Much appreciated. (My answer would still be the same though :) ).
