To teach kids about writing thank you notes from an early age, take a picture of them with a joyous expression of the Christmas or b-day gift they receive when they are one and include that in the thank you note you send the giver. As they grow older let them scribble or draw a picture telling the little child this is their thank you note for the toy grandmother gave them or Aunt Sue gave them. Once they begin writing their letters help them write thank you and send that to the give of the gifts.
When they are in school, they can write their thak you notes.
Naturally they will know tosay thank you ,butthe notes makea nice touch
There is a lost art in writing thank you notes these days.

and e-mails, texts, ect do not count.

In fact, the note should be hand written - that means no word processer / computer!

I agree...I find it offensive to give a gift usually via mail and it is a voucher or some form of money and not even get an aknowledgement.....it is a GUARANTEE never ever will it ever happen again..if the repcipient can't be bothered, the giver sure is not going to be bothered.......:sleeping_2:

I don't think age should matter. When my girls were newborns, I wrote thank-you notes for any gifts they received. As soon as they could hold a crayon, I had them draw or color a thank you picture to send the giver.

I want my kids to practice the attitude of gratitude. By teaching them early in life, they already know now to say thanks without being told.

    What if you cannot hand-write??

Thank you comes in many forms. Pastors often receive financial gifts with no names attached.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I see your point JIm. Yes there are exceptions, such as a child who has nt been taught to write, or a child who is challenged, such as a child or adult with Down's Syndrome. This includes an eldery aunt whose hands are severely crippledwith arthritis. Thank you for your imput.

One thing learned as you age is that no rule should be ironclad.

I would say reasonable execptions are acceptable
