What is Sin?

Here is a list of Scriptures that speak to the topic of sin. Obviously they are not all ‘definitions’ of sin, but they do speak concerning the issue of sin. Does anyone find other important verses on sin that we might add to the list in order to make it as complete as we can and to aide us with our definitions of sin?

Sin means to miss the mark. What is the mark? The glory of God. We all have fallen short of the glory of God.

In the following passage,[ 1 John 16 v 17 ] John mentions that there are two categories of sin. Venial sins weaken the life of grace in the soul and weakens the soul's ability to avoid sin. Mortal sins, by their very nature, literally kill the soul by purposefully eradicating sanctifying grace. Jesus gave all power and authority to His apostles and their replacements [ successors ]along with prespyters, bishops, priests the sacrament of penance in which absolution is received from the biblical ordained decendants of the apostles. It is "in persona Christi". The Holy Bible explains that Jesus recieved all power and authority from the Father and then Jesus turns all power and authority over to His apostles, the Holy Bible is very clear in this explanation of confession and reconciliation.

Sin is rooted in pride as sin is coming short in all that we do and say for the glory of God. Sin is in its essence the wrong motive for living, thinking, saying, acting out our life.

Sin is therefore is the root motive, guiding motive that directs the intents and thoughts of the heart:

Mat. 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

A persons "thoughts" inclusive of attitudes and actions are evil due to the motive rooted in the heart of every human coming from the womb born of two fallen parents. Children do not need to be taught to do evil as it is rooted in their heart from birth.

1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Rom. 3:23 For all have sinned and COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.

Let me make this as clear and as simply as I possibly can. It is the WRONG MOTIVE that is the sin. The right motive is "for the glory of God." Hence, the WRONG MOTIVE would be anything other than the right motive.

The WRONG MOTIVE would be characterized by a wrong kind of pride - a pride that will not give the glory to God for all that you are and all that you think, say and do. Hence, the wrong motive refuses submission to God and therefore it is a motive that is at enmity with God's glory and thus at enmity with God Himself.

This wrong motive is rooted in the human heart (Mt. 15) and is the basis for all the intents and thoughts and desires rising out of the human heart (Mt. 15). It is the poison in the well of the human heart that permeates all the water in the well. It is the sap that flows through the root to all the branches and fruit of human nature.

Everything man is and does has this evil motive for its root and therefore man sins because he is sinful at the root of his very nature.

It is inseparable from human nature coming from the womb as it always without exception finds expression in producing evil fruits. NO INFANT NEEDS TO BE TRAINED TO DO EVIL it comes from birth by nature and it is obvious to anyone observing infants who are self-centered from birth.

Sorry, but you are simply wrong and seriously wrong! Lawlessness refers to any point violated. You need break but one point of the law to be a lawbreaker and thus lawless because one point BREAKS ALL THE LAW!

Infants are more lawless than adults! How so? They are completely SELF-ABSORBED in everything they are and do. With discipline adults bring some SELFISHNESS under control.

The root of all sin is WRONG MOTIVE for all that you think and do. The only RIGHT MOTIVE for all that we think or do is "for the glory of God" and sin is coming "short of the glory of God."

This root of sin is more obvious in infants than any other stage of human development. Infants do not need to be trained to be selfish, hateful, jealous, angry, etc. but it comes FROM THE WOMB BY NATURE.

The curse of sin is passed down through Adam, since Jesus had no earthly father and no blood connection to Adam, He did not have this curse within Him. God cursed the offspring of Adam, Jesus was not conceived from Adam, but by the Holy Ghost.

You select the translation to promote your heresy! No sin could be found "IN" him. You completely ignore the virgin birth. You completely close your eyes to the obnoxious obvious fact that infants are notoriously self-centered by nature. Indeed, if they had grown up bodies they would kill their parents before a week was completed.

You completely ignore that the root of sin is the WRONG MOTIVE for exisiting and doing all that one does because the only right motive is whatever we say or do, DO ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD and all have come short of the glory of God.

Infants are the most obvious examples of RAW DEPRAVITY within the human race as they are the most SELF ABSORBED of all of humanity and need absolutley no training because they are BORN THAT WAY and must be disciplined or they will DESTROY everything around them that gets in their way.

The verse I quoted says that He was made like us in every way. Obviously you do not believe that.

He was tempted but yet he did not sin. that does not change the fact that He was made like us in every way.

If little children are born in a state of sin then the Lord Jesus would not have said the following about them:

"Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven" (Mt.19:13-14).

Are we to believe that the Lord believed that infants are "children of wrath" but yet He would say of them that "such is the kingdom of heaven"? Of course not! Children are described as being "an heritage of the Lord":

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward" (Ps.127:3).

According to your ideas the fruit of the womb which is the Lord's heritage is a spiritually dead baby!

Let us look at how the Calvinists portray God. According to them our Maker makes us "wholly" inclined to all evil and opposite to all good:

And then when man does exactly what he was designed to do God punishes him severely:

The verse I quoted says that He was made like us in every way. Obviously you do not believe that.

YOu select a translation to support your unbiblical theory. The underlying Greek text does not demand that translation.

He was not made like us in "every way"! He was God in the flesh and WE ARE NOT. He was made by VIRGIN BIRTH and WE ARE NOT. He was made without a SELF-CENTERED nature due to virgin birth but every child born of parents is SELF-CENTERED by nature and must be disciplined or else they are destructive to all about them. Jesus was not!

If little children are born in a state of sin then the Lord Jesus would not have said the following about them:

Such are not of the kingdom of heaven in the sense you interpret this text. There are no children in heaven in unglorified flesh and blood. Thus there are no children in heaven sinful in nature. The children in heaven are not only sinless but incapable of sinning, incapable of dying but such is not the case of those that came to Jesus.

Little children old enough to come to Jesus on their own are not sinless children. They exhibit lying, anger, hatefulness but the children in heaven DO NOT!

My mistake! You have my apologies. I will eat crow on that aspect of our discussion.

You are correct in regard to the translation but wrong in regard to your application as I pointed out in my previous post.

The reason you are wrong in regard to your application is that you fail to consider the EXCEPTIONS provided by other scriptures and some of those exceptions are quite obvious as those I pointed out in my previous post.

He was made the "second Adam" and thus like the "first Adam" without sin. No man took His life, He laid it down and had power to raise it back up.

Another point that he was not made like all other men is the way he came into the world - he had no human father and that is significant in our discussion.
