In another thread - it was brought up that TV dads are not proper head of households. Many of them are portrayed as silly, dumb and afraid of their wives.

    For example -
    Tim of Home Improvement
    Ray of Everybody Loves Raymond
    Steven of Family Ties
    Jason of Growing Pains

Even Cliff of the Bill Crosby Show was sometimes kept in place by his wife.

Why are there no more Ward Cleavers or Ben Cartwright's?

    thoughts?

The male role had to be usurped in order for the family to be overthrown and society led down the progressive path. A serious look at the plans to bring down the US and to bring about the one world order, a global socialist utopia, from the 1900's or so will show this is all part of the plan.

I would remind you that Ben Cartwright didn't have a wife. He was a widower.

I don't think you'd find too many HONEST men who wouldn't tell you they're a little bit "afraid" of their wives anyway. Shows like Everybody Loves Raymond, et al, simply expound on those moments of fear..........(in a Raymond episode I caught the other night he said to his wife..."Oh, Oh, is this your ladies' time??" My husband will tell you there are times he treads lightly! LOL

It doesn't have a thing to do with being the big bad macho head of the house. Ward respected June. He treated her with loving care, never ordered her around or raised his voice.

Why is it people think that head of the household equates with me Tarzan you Jane? Scripture says that men are to be the head of the home as Christ is head of the church. Show me one example where Jesus came in and said, "Woman, where's my dinner?" Instead we saw Jesus kneel at the feet of his disciples and wash their feet. We saw Jesus serve his disciples. We saw Jesus provide food for 5,000 plus.....how many husbands wash the feet of their wives (or the dishes), and on and on.

Remember that FEAR of the Lord isn't shaking in your boots fear but awe, respect, great admiration. That's something a lot of men could use to give to their wives.

Just about the only place we find a healthy male head of household displayed in the entertainment world is through the movie releases of Sherwood Baptist Church. ESPECIALLY "Courageous." HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT MOVIE!

Simple. TV advertisers cater mostly to women. I suppose that women like to see the men be bumbling fools and the women strong and smart, therefore TV execs create these shows in order to sell advertising.

I know I don't enjoy seeing men be bumbling fools. I do like to see women characterized on television and smart and strong as opposed to how they are typically represented.

I also know that television commercials annoy and puzzle me more than that tempt me to buy anything.

I've found it best to not have to be afraid of my wife.

ABSOLUTE best time of my day is when I come home to her loving arms!

I've also found that that happens when I love her the best ways I can, in keeping with her love language, and so as to build her up into the most perfect example of a Proverbs 31 wife possible. What JOY to bless my bride! And what joy to be blessed by her as she does likewise -- to lift me up to be the best godly husband and leader I can be.

We've only been together for 38 years and married 34 of them so far, but I'm sure we will get better at this stuff as time goes on.

And, yes, I would PAY to see a bunch of television shows that showcase BIBLICAL marriage with dads loving and taking care of their families while children respect and obey (and love!) their parents, and wives respect and honor (and love!) their husbands. These shows would not have to be boring! Heavens no... Our family operates that way and we do all sorts of whacky stuff from "red neck yacht club" to radical off-road rock climbing in custom-built off-road trucks, to shooting events, to sports, whatever... We build it, hunt it, fish it, camp near it, run over it, and love it!

Except for M*A*S*H and Kojak the old shows on my cable ARE boring. Would like to see Hill Street Blues and Taxi. But the old "family/comedy" shows are boring.

I don't think those shows fall in with the title of this thread.

Ben actually had 3 wives - but this thread is not about widowers -rather it is about ... well just look at the title of the thread...

Know why Ben was a widower X3? He'd come home from working hard all day on the ranch, and his dinner wasn't ready, and his bath wasn't drawn either. So he just up and shot'em!! :tongue3: :wavey: :D

My mother is the spitting image (in her mannerisms and sayings) of Raymond's mother, from Everyone Loves Raymond. Not sure when they secretly investigated her, but somehow they did!

Worst thing is that she has no clue...

Most every TV show has someone who is a father thus a "TV DAD."

Is Col Potter a Dad - yes - but the plot of the show has virtually nothing to do with Dads.

Now are you able to comment why TV Dads are being portrayed in a less than acceptable way?

Women are the ones watching tv nowadays(it makes them feel good for us to be seen in a degraded fashion). The men are too busy working, cutting the grass, trimming the hedges, painting the house, etc. All because their wives make them do it....:D  :wavey: :)

    J/K Sisters....
