I've been looking into how the Mayan's came to the final date for the 26k year cycle that ends on 12-21-12 (when they state the "new age" begins). From what I gather, the sun will be in the center of the Milky Way and will stay on this mid-line for 6.5 - 7 years (another ironic fact) ushering another cycle of 26k years (give or take).

Not buying into the world ending on this day, but is it not possible with all of the talk of Christ about the "age to come" and the end of this age, Christ's return could be mere months away? The Mayan's pre-date Christ's time on earth, and given that this new age to come was circulating in the world, isn't it possible Christ borrowed from this verbiage to describe His second coming?

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

    Neither the Mayans.

Not the point. I never claimed the Mayan's know the "day and the hour"...please follow along. Christ's second return includes the rapture of the saints, the 7 years of Jacob's Trouble, and His final triumph over the anti christ. The rapture can happen at any point.

Would say the the actual timing of His Second Timing is lnown only to God...
    BUT

Would also say that what if just as at his first coming, when the Asians and far east peoples seemed to sense/know that something was immediate, that a King of the jews time was at hand...

Wonder if in same fashion they might have 'sotra known" something was going to happen?

How did the Mayans even know there was a 26,000 year precession cycle?

Your premise is that, possibly, the Mayan's know enough of God's plans to establish their calendar based on those plans. My premise is that according to the Bible no one knows enough to do more than speculate based on their (human) observations.

For believers, wouldn't it be wonderful if we're caught up April 8, 2012 during Sonrise services on Resurrection Sunday? Yet, it may be another 1,000 years before all of God's plans are fulfilled according to His goals and objectives.

Math? ;) They would have put the wise men to shame with their knowledge of astronomy.

No, that is not my premise, nor have I even hinted anything remotely concerning it.. Please read the OP...slowly and carefully. They understood astronomy, not God's plans concerning mankind. My point is more along the line of Jesus using human understanding (like the color of the sky, leaves on a tree, etc.) when He referred to the "age to come".

Yeah but the Mayans didn't take into account the Leap Years put in place by Rome. So technically the world has already ended. ;)

Not really since the leap year is the byproduct of the Gregorian calendar which they did not base their calendar on :D

Jesus said no man knows the day or the hour, but He also said that we are to watch the seasons. Therefore, we can see signs of the end, just not the exact time.

    WD,
Some see this age /and the age to come to mean the end of the jewish age, and the beginning of this age since the cross ...to the last day.

    First, I am pre-trib and pre-mill.

Second, do you really think it possible that Christ "borrowed" their verbiage? You ought to study what all the Mayans did in their 'religion'. Do you really think that God chose to let this human sacrificing, false god worshipping kind of group know the get in on the time of His Son's return?

third, maybe they're right but it is only because, just like a broken clock is right twice a day. It was by accident.

I hate to say this, because we agree about eschatology that this is like the worst aspects of the pre-mill, pre-trib preachers who get their message not from the Bible but from the newspaper headlines. We get accused of this all the time, I just hate to see it being done here.

Maybe I'm just confused, but how could a pre-modern, Second Temple individual living in ancient Palestine even be aware of a ancient American culture or their eschatology which existed in a time that most thought the world was flat and isolated to the Arabian pennusila?

By "borrow" I am only referencing language that would have been understood at that time, you are reading into what I said more than i intended.
you have missed the point completely. The mayans were not the only astronomers in the world, the magi might have also read the sky in similar fashion. I'm not advocating they had any inkling of when Christ would return, my op is dealing only with their understanding of a new age beginning based on the 26k year cycle.
    again, missed the point entirely.

...and its not being done here, you are hearing what you want to hear and not what I actually said.

Then forgive me. I've re-read it again and still think you've missed the mark entirely. But maybe, you're right, I am just seeing what I want to see.

    Enjoy your daughters birthday!

Of course, notice that is just one month after Mitt Romney is elected President. Maybe the angel Macaroni will bring back the golden leafs and cash them in for $1700 an ounce before the end.
