    Wow...big day in the NFL.

Although, to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about the NFL punishing the Saints like this, and not even remotely coming close to this for what the Patriots got caught doing.

While I understand it's the intent: Paying players extra money to hurt people...this is the same NFL that for years put out edition after edition of the "Greatest Hits in NFL History"

Violent hits are okay if the intent to hurt isn't motivated by extra cash?

I do agree that if/when the NFL fines that they need bigger fines, and this one was it. Don't agree with the cost of draft picks. That should never be involved, IMO.

That's a ridiculous punishment. Suspended an entire season? Goodell is out of control here and WAY over paid.

The Pats cheat to win, and get fined, but Payton gets suspended a year?

I have to agree with Goodell's decisions. The bounty system was different than "spy-gate". The bounty system could have ended careers, which is totally unacceptable. FB is violent enough w/o intentionally going after someone.

Can't wait to see Tebow's lame duck "woobles" cutting through that NJ jet stream. He will not make it as a QB for the Jets. I see H-Back(see Frank Wychek) in his not too distant future.

They're bringing Tebow in for the wildcat, they know he can't pass.

Looks like he may become a Ram instead of a Jet.

I don't think the Pats punishment was near enough. Not even close.

And I do believe Goodell is a bit out of control.

With that said, the fines and punishments they've been issuing out for years obviously wasn't working.

    The Saints just got "SMU'd"

It's already a done deal...as of when I posted this (according to ESPN).

    Tebow is a JET.

Bradford is their franchise QB. I also think he's a much better QB than Sanchez (looking at the two comparitively).

As bad as the Rams are, I'm not sure of the reasoning that they'd get involved here.

If Payton knew it was going on and condoned it, then no, it isn't too much.

Spygate should've resulted in a harsher punishment. The reason I don't think it did, is because just about every NFL team would be in trouble.

To this point, we haven't heard a lot about a bounty system coming from all the other NFL teams.

If a guy plays the game, and his sole personal motivation is to hit hard and injure people...that's one thing. While I don't condone that or personally think it's right, if that's what he's doing (and he's doing it within the rules of the NFL and not playing dirty) then that's what it is.

But when the organization gets involved and say "okay, we're playing the Rams this weekend, extra money for anyone who takes out Bradford or Jackson"...then we've got issues.

It's not like the players were doing it amongst themselves (which would also be wrong).

I hear what you're saying and I'm more of the opinion shared in your OP. If spygate received a harsher punishment, and they should have, then I would be more in agreement with bountygates punishment.

I'd say agree with the bounty punishment, and disagree with the pats cheating and their punishment.

At some point in every sport or organization, examples have to be made. That's why I mentioned "SMU'd" earlier. The saints are that example this time around.

According to ESPN, the NFL warned the Saints coaches in, I think, 2010, about this going on. Then, apparently, Payton tried to cover things up, to hinder the NFL's investigation(when this came about in the last few weeks). Then there are emails where someone told Payton for the coaches to put him down for $5,000 on Aaron Rodgers in their 2011 opening season game @ Green Bay(paraphrasing this). Jeff Fischer was even quoted stating that Gregg Williams' suspension was warranted. He did not know about this when he hired him away from the Saints to take the DC position with the Rams.

This needed to be done exactly the way Goodell handled it. This bounty system has no place anywhere, especially in a sport as violent as the NFL is already. Some heads needed to be rolled, IMHO.

I am all for hard hits, shoot, it enjoy seeing them getting folded up like chairs. But do so in accordance to the rules of the game. When someone pays someone else to put someone else out of the game intentionally, then something needs to be done, and pronto.

Another thing to add: according to ESPN, when Coach Payton found out about the investigation the second time, he tried to cover things up, and had instructed others to do so. So not only was he aware of the bounty system, he knew about the NFL's initial warning(in 2010), and when they reinvestigated it, he tried to cover things up. A one year suspension was very warranted, if'n you ask me.

Shoot, Gregg Williams, may never get another "sniff" at an NFL coaching job, even being a waterboy.

Yes, when I first responded today I had not considered the bounty meaning to take people out of games. Basically I was shocked when I heard Payton got suspended the entire season.

I still believe Belicheat should've gotten more of a penalty for cheating to win. He hasn't won one since though, so, as a diehard Raiders fan who got robbed by the 'tuck rule' I'll be happy about that. May he never win another Superbowl. Anywhere. :love2: :D

I wasn't shocked about him being suspended, but the entire season? Wow. Was it an excessive penalty to be doled out? Nope. There's an old saying around here, "you mess with the bull, you'll get the horn". He got the "horn".

If he would have fessed up, he might have gotten off with a lighter sentence. But when he began to try to cover things up, and was instructing others to do the same, I think that sealed his fate, IMHO. As fas as I am concerned, he got exactly what he deserved.
