What is repentance, and can one fail to repent and yet enter into a hope of eternal life?

Repentance is simply turning from one direction and going the exact opposite or the changing of one's mind.
One cannot fail to repent from unbelief and enter into the hope of eternal life. Ye must go from unbelief to belief, repent! THen, and only then, can one begin the work of repentance from dead works and all other sins which is life long process.
Repentance unto salvation is revealed at the very cross of Christ when the theif who first disbelieved Jesus afterward repented from unbelief to belief and was saved. The theif had no other chance to go and prove anything by repenting of his sins. What he repented of was unbelief. He didn't tell Jesus everything he ever did nor say he was sorry, he simply believed and was saved. Only then could he have had any actions that would show the regeneration of his heart which would be the repenting of his sins throughout the rest of his life. Not they these repentances would get him more saved nor keep him saved, but would be evidence that he was saved and the product of his new heart.
No one cannot fail to repent. Repentance was always part of the call to Christ:
Repentance is more than believing it is turning from being against God and then being for God. It is turning from a life lead by the flesh and to a life that is lead by the Spirit. It is a life where God is now Lord of your life instead of you.
Rom 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
One must distinguish between gospel repentance and on going repentance. Gospel repentance and faith is a once for all experience and necessary to be saved. It is never repeated because as the writer of Hebrews says if it is possible for a saved person to lose their salvation it would be "impossible to renew them again unto repentance." As the writer continues to argue it is not possible for true believers to lose their salvation and so gospel repentance is once and non-repeatable.
However, as a saved heaven bound child of God, there is on going repentance needed to "walk" in fellowship with God, to experience the blessings of salvation here and now. Without repentance on a daily basis you lose your joy, fellowship, and blessings that come with EXPERIENTIAL salvation and enter into the area of chastening which is not experientially pleasant but grevious (Heb. 12:5-10).
Can a true child of God fail to repent of daily sin and go to heaven? Yes as 1 Cor. 3:11-15 clearly demonstrates it is possible to be saved "even as by fire." Yes, as physical death can be part of God's chastening of his children.

Repentance is a Gift that the Risen Christ gives along with forgiveness of sins, to His Elect People, the Church or Israel Acts 5:31
31Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
It is a change of mind !
Everyone Christ died for, His Resurrection shall give them a New Birth by the Spirit 1 Pet 1:3
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Notice, " hath begotten us again" The greek word here for begotten is anagennaō and means:
to produce again, be born again, born anew
2) metaph. to have one's mind changed so that he lives a new life and one conformed to the will of God
So Christ's resurrection gives all those He died for Repentance, a change of mind, so that they live a new life unto God !
So everyone Christ died for shall receive repentance unto Life ! Acts 11:18
18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
This is a reason to Glorify God for !

Repentance is more than just turning from unbelief to belief.
Jesus said in Matthew 7 that many who had done many things in His name would not be accepted of Him.
These did many wonderful things, all in the name of Jesus... yet they are rejected.
If they didn't believe in Him, they would not have done things in His name.
So again, repentance is more than just turning from unbelief to belief.

The bible is clear about repentnace, and it is Just as clear who does it, all those Christ died for as their Saviour ! Now you either believe it or you do not !

Jesus was very clear about those he spoke of in Matthew 7 when he said he would say to them "I never knew you". They were never believers, they only used Christ name for selfish purposes.
To be saved one must "know" Jesus. And that is personal.
We also see the theif on the cross repenting of unbelief and being saved. It is the perfect example of repentance unto salvation. Afterwards, one repents of sins continually as the Spirit teaches.
The stiff-necked and scoffers are sinners as well and I have seen many come to CHrist and receive a new heart. And sadly, I have seen many stiff-necked Christians.

With all the versions out there it might be surprising what one might find, but I must have missed something. Where does it ever indicate that the thief on the cross was 'repenting of unbelief?' Now I thought it has been presented that one repents subsequent to salvation, so just when did this 'repenting of unbelief' take place? Was the thief on the cross saved before Christ told him he would see him that day in paradise? Now that I think about it it never even mentions faith or belief in the versions I have read. Help me out here.
The two thieves on the crosses, one on each side of Jesus are good examples of believing with repenting, and only believing without repenting.
Both thieves believed Jesus was the Christ, but only one was sorry for his sins.
The one thief acknowledges that Jesus is the Christ. He said, “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t your fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”
The thief on one side did not fear God, and was not sorry for his sins, nor did he repent.
Who repents and is not sorry? That would not be an acceptable repentance, for God knows our hearts.
The Bible says his salvation is near all those who fear him, see Psalm 85:9, and contrite, Isaiah 66:2.

Who can one say is repentant, and yet commits the same sins day after day, practically believing that the damning sin only happens if one stops sinning or even dares to say they have a clear conscience before God and man with the help of the Holy Sprirt?

Thanks for sharing Fred's wife.:thumbsup: I have not read much of anything by Studd, but I have been around groups that follow a lot of his teachings and have never seen or heard of anything not in keeping with Scriptural Christianity... you know, like the stuff that gets called ''heresy' on this board by so many.
You know, some of us must have really tough skin because it is obvious no one can offend us or the moderators would be giving those infractions who offend us. Oh I forgot. Only the Calvinists and those leaning hard towards Calvinism get offended justly on this forum that is.

What a bunch of double speak and utter hypocrisy. According to the Calvinists, or those leaning hard towards Calvinism, any sin a believer commits is somehow hidden from the eyes of God by the blood of Christ........EXCEPT the sin of saying that the blood of Christ cleanseth one from ALL sin and that God has washed ones sins away as white as snow, and that by the help of the Holy Spirit one lived apart from sin, for even a mere portion of a day. Now there is a sin, THE ONLY SIN BY A BELIEVER that evidently God can and does see. A clean and pure heart merits sin. Think about it.

Now if all men are liars yet forgiven, and one is said to be a liar for claiming that God has cleansed their heart from all sin, and that He help us live apart from sin, why is it so hard for them to accept us as one of them? If they are sinners, and we are sinners, and they are liars and according to them we are liars, why is it they fight us so hard? I don't get it? Is failing to sin by the Lord's help the unforgivable sin? Where is their love for a fellow sinner in their eyes? Is failure to show love towards a fellow sinner sin? Oh, that's right. The only sin that evidently means anything is being made free from sin by God as promised.
