You have decided to ed-friend someone on face book

    1- Should you inform them?
2- Should you tell them why?

I've unfriended four people. One for using excessive profanity and two for constantly making references to their sex lives and the last for constantly stirring up trouble with friends and family and insisting that people take sides.

I did not inform any of them when I unfriended them.

I see no need to. I go to Facebook for light-hearted fellowship - not drama. Drama queens and kings and princesses and princes will be dropped like a hot-potatoe by me.

No, don't tell anyone. I had something personal going on and didn't need the pain of making groups, so just unfriended about everyone for a while and then started over.

I do delete people who have hundreds of "friends" and just want to have someone for their collection. I have a few people I rarely interact with, but enjoy seeing their pics and knowing they're okay or if they need prayer, but don't have anyone on my list that I don't feel comfortable with or that are "snitchy" and share stuff with people that I don't want things shared with.

I hope I don't anyhow. LOL It's a relatively short list, so hopefully nobody left on there is snitchy. Nosey is fine, snitchy is not.

I have deleted one person and got in huge trouble with it. Don't ask - I can't go into it but suffice it to say that my own Facebook is not my own. :(

I unfriended one person who I sent a message to explain why.
His relationship status was inconsistant with his claim to be a Christian.
I hoped that it would be a witness to him.

Since Facebook made some serious changes, I virtually dropped out because I don't understand it.

Just have family on my list. I think!

    Cheers,

    Jim

Why inform them? It's your page, your choice. I will unfriend people for profanity or for posting pictures that I do not want someone else to see on my page. I did have one person ask me why I unfriended them. I told her, she didn't like it. That's her problem, not mine.

I think it depends on who it is, and why. I unfriended a family member that was constantly getting hacked, and inappropriate posts kept popping up on her page. Of course, I told her why and when she got it fixed I re-friended her.

If it's someone I don't know personally, and find their posts offensive, I'll unfriend and not explain to them. If they ask, then of course I'll tell them why.

Don't you love the new verb, "friend?" :)

My list got so big one day that I realized most of these people I didn't really know. They were minor acquaintences.

So I nuked like 100 people. I only had 2-3 people ask and I told them why, but I wasn't going to take the time to tell each one.

Aside from that I had one person who used profanity directly on my wall a lot. I politely asked him to stop. He didn't, so I removed him. I didn't figure he needed an explanation.

The few I have dropped I haven't told, but if asked, I wouldn't mind telling them.

One reason I asked, is that I have had some folks un-friend (or is that de-friend me). It was quite a while before I even realized it. It wasn't until I checked my friends list that I realized he had deleted me.

Currently, some of my "friends" are Friends of friends of friends. Some of them will post 15 or 20 a day, with several at a time. To me, Face book is just a quick glimpse of what is going on. I have been thinking of de-friending some of those who make countless posts.

So, let me ask the question this way - would you want to know and why if someone were to befriend you?

Nope, don't care to know. If they don't want to read what I post it's on them as most of what I post is faith/Bible/God related...some people don't want the reminders.

I find Facebook very weird. I have used it to stay in contact with rural rellies and such over the ditch. What I find odd is that if I find say "cuzzie A" I suddenly are deluged with all their contacts wanting to be my friends.

Now "cuzzie A" is say 18 and I am over 50....why would their friends want me to be a friend to them. I do NOT......clothes,hair,boys,drinking, girls, hanging out and footy are not my thing at all. It is remarkably unselective.

Facebook is a lot like BB------you get some folks on there--who post for a while and then go cold turkey

you get some on there that you grew up with----my next door neighbors from 50 years ago---the "Youth" group from church---and a sprinklin' of folks from high school

Then you get some on there who unload with every problem in the world---tellin' all the world their own personal vendettas, etc

FB is the modern day era of what we did 50 years ago with the telephone, walking next door and writing a real letter on real paper and using a real stamp to mail it to your "Aun-tee!!!"
I've got some FB friends who are ultra conservative---and then on the other end of the spectrum still others who participate in all of their local "Occupy" movements--etc
