Captain Kangaroo

I used to watch Captain Kangaroo every morning when I was a small boy, I clearly remember the theme song.

I also watched the Mickey Mouse club and remember their theme song as well. Of course, I had a crush on Annette like every other red blooded American boy. :tongue3:

I don't recall the 1980 reunion show.

Howdy Doody was a few years before my time, but I remember seeing reruns as a boy. I don't recall the theme.

Edit- I think I do remember the Howdy Doody theme song, I think it went, "It's Howdy Doody time, it's Howdy Doody time", but that's all I remember.

 

Loved Howdy Doody growing up. Some kids even thought I looked like Howdy. :type:

Yes, I always liked Mr. Green Jeans because he looked and dressed just like my grandfather who was a farmer. I also remember Bunny Rabbit always being able to steal the carrots, and Mr. Moose dropping ping pong balls on Captain Kangaroo. It was a great show for little kids.

I often watch Antenna TV, they show lots of the old shows from the 50's such as Leave it to Beaver, Dennis the Menace, the Burns and Allen show, even old Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I enjoy this channel much more than other channels that show modern shows. I have turned my kids on to many of the old shows. They are still great entertainment with good, but simple plots, without the need to shock or use profane language. TV was pretty good back then.

 

It is totally weird about Captain Kangaroo.....it sounds as if there is an Australian theme somewhere....how come we never saw it!!!!

Was it as good as "Skippie the Bush Kangaroo"?:flower:

 

I loved Captain Kangaroo! My sis and I would sit and watch, mesmerized! I also remember a song on the show about Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Anyone remember that one?

 

Captain Kangaroo was a little "after my time." (I was born exactly 9 months & 1 week after the signing of the formal peace treaty on board the battleship U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Harbor ending the Pacific Theater of Operations in WWII. [You can make of that fact whatever you want to!! :smilewinkgrin:])

Clarabell the Clown's seltzer bottle was "my 'weapon of choice'."

I boo-ed Phineas T. Bluster!

Yep, them was the glory years for me!!

And, if you REALLY wanted to be friends with me back then, there was the cowboy show featuring HOP-A-LONG CASSIDY!!

He, my dear friends, was my hero.....I even signed my school homework papers: "Hoppy"!!!!
