It's just you. Why say more than that?

    Only if you're keeping score...

I do - these are customers I am calling. If they complain that I dont call back, I want them to know when I did call.

Ours says "Hi. You've reached xxx-xxxx. We're not available to take your phone call right now but leave your name and number and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks for calling!"

Our missions pastor's message, however, is "You have reached the ****** residence. If you are a telemarketer, please hang up. All others leave a message."

    I like that one.

Our land line answers, "Start talking. If we are home we will pick it up. If not, we will return your call." It eliminates answering half the calls.

Ours simply says to leave a message. There are no promises to call back. Best way to weed out the tele-riffraff.

Because so often it is telemarketers. Even being on the do not call registry, they still call. "Oh, you must have at some point checked off a box on a form saying that you will receive our call." Yeah - I'd never do that. Sorry, you must be mistaken.

I don't mind answering the phone for real phone calls and I will be polite when I get a call from a telemarketer but when the phone rings and I stop what I'm doing to answer it, it had better be for something real.

If you don't want telemarketers calling then maybe you can subscribe to total exclusion. That way your number isn't available to such people. I know there are now some systems which can select random numbers and we have had a few of those and I have a couple of different ways of dealing with them.

Okay - here is a good reason to answer the phone.

For the past two weeks I have been calling xxx-7299
tonight I found out the number is xxx-7229

If that individual had answered his phone or least returned my call, it would have saved me a lot of time - and I would not have kept calling him back, not to mention the customer I was trying to reach.

    Folks, mistakes do happen

Because we don't like to be rude to people and say 'no' to them.

BTW, I agree with you that the message, "Leave a message" is too brief.
