However, many Baptists hold to an local church only (no universal, invisible) interpretation of ekklesia. But, that's not what is at the center of this brother's problem. His problem is he ignores 400 years of the well documented Anglo-American Baptist history of inter church relations with his repetition of "No local church over this organization"

You have no idea how fractious Northern Baptists can be.

Salty, I looked at that link in detail. The ONLY thing I could find was that they think GARB aren't separated enough. A couple of things from the site stood out to me: in one sermon, the speaker said it was wrong and not "trusting God" for Christians to get a bank loan and the speaker couldn't associate with a family member because the family member attended a SBC. Also, one article seemed to make a case for secondary separation, but the reasoning was very vague, just that believers should not associate with the unsaved or with "worldly" believers. I did not hear exactly what constituted "worldly."

So, it looks like legalism is the real dividing issue. I didn't hear any relevant scripture to support these opinions, just that "two can't walk together unless they be agreed."

Unfortunately many well-meaning Christians follow the unbiblical practice of "secondary separation" to the detriment of the advancement of the Gospel.

    ABC you are absoutely right.
By the way, are you familiar with Dr. L. Duane Brown? He was one of the leading forces in the IFBNA movement. He is also a personal friend of mine.

Let me ask you - Since I am SBC, would that keep me from preaching in your church ? :1_grouphug: then I go down and preach in Tiny Tims church  - wait he is ABC:praying:

Isn't that the same thing the Pharisee's accused Jesus of doing? Hanging out with unbelievers and Sabbath law-breakers?

Never met Dr. Brown, sorry. As far as preaching here, come on down. Let me know when you leave so I can toss dinner in the crock pot.

Based on my personal experience I think you make a great summery of the situation. I have a GARBC background was was quite surprised when I made this fact known to the leadership of my local IFB church. They could not hide their feelings that the GARBC is not separate enough for their tastes. I get the impression that if the I pressed the issue I could get them to agree that GARBC is in the same league with the liberal mainlines. But that is just my opinion and not actual confirmed fact.
