The Rapture...

One of the subjects I've got queued for research is Rapture Theology. I thought I'd post this video for comment from my BB friends. One question I have is whether there is evidence that the view of the rapture popular with dispensationalists is more than just a 19th century development.

One quote from the video I found interesting is, "Rather than viewing natural disasters and wars as horrific events that require Christian action, many embrace these events as exciting symbols that Christ will soon rapture his church. Many fear that these views are shaping American culture and political beliefs... If Christians are soon to be raptured out of the world, why bother taking care of it?"

I do not believe in "the rapture", but I do believe in the visible second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe His return is imminent. Therefore, we should be found to be good stewards of all things God has entrusted to us.

I've heard this many times and it's a bunch of baloney. I know of no Christians that think this way. I've challenged people that say this sort of thing to give examples of Christians or Christian leaders that espouse the idea that "we're going to be raptured soon anyway, so why not rape the earth's resources."

It is true that there are some Christians that view earthquakes and other natural disasters as signs of the end times but I know of none that don't see them as horrific events.

There is no Scriptural evidence for the so-called Rapture. However, I do believe that dispensational thinking is affecting our foreign policy. I support our policy toward Israel only because they are the only democracy in the middle east, they are our friend, and they are a thorn in the side of Islam; not because they occupy any special relation to God!

Guess Apostle paul was wrong about the trumpet of God, voice of the archangel, and the saints being resurrected and glorified, Eh?

This is already happened in John's day as the Revelation says it has--Seal NOT up the things of the Prophecy of this book the angel told John--For the day is AT HAND---MUST SHORTLY come to pass.

I have always believed that dispensational theology cannot derive from the straight forward reading of Scripture. One reads about Covenants, not dispensations. I believe that a person must be schooled in dispensationalism. Sadly Scofield's bible and Darby's doctrine made its way into Baptist Churches!

There is debate, of course, over the identity of the Restrainer.

The most popular view is that it is the Holy Spirit, whose presence holds back the rise of the Anti-Christ. This is consistent with the view that when the Rapture comes, the Holy Spirit will leave as well, leaving the earth to the forces of evil.

Of course, the scriptures do no specifically say that, and do not specifically identify the Restrainer as the Holy Spirit. Only if one already believes in a pre-trib rapture will he come to that conclusion.

Another view is that the Restrainer is Michael the Archangel. It is Michael, you'll remember, who opposed Satan in the book of Daniel But, of course, it's not specifically spelled out.

The idea that the Restrainer is the Holy Spirit also leads to the view that no Gentiles will be saved during the tribulation, since the Holy Spirit is gone. The focus returns to the Jews. But no scriptures specifically says that.

In recent years, however, I've read stuff by some dispies which say that Gentiles can be saved during the Tribulation. So, what is the current view on that?

The problem I see is that too often individual verses are plucked out and made to fit a pre-trib view.

where in the world did we all get a futurist view of all these things,when the bible plainly speaks that those things were going to happen in the day of John's day--i am guilty myself of that same futurist view--but do not fear to be wrong and read the scriptures in the way they are told and not adding to them :)

Why would Jews be saved and Gentiles not during this "time of Jacob's troubles"? If the Holy Spirit is not here how are any saved?

The Holy Spirit was not the one to be taken out of the way :) It was the Ruler of the time of rest the saints had after Paul's conversion--there was a law that was in effect that Persecution could not be allowed--when that Ruler was taken out of the way,youll find in history that the greatest Persecution fell upon them that ever was before or ever will be :)

Search History in the times of ad 60-70 and its all there :)

Interesting question is the passage that God wills end them a deluded spirit that will make it impossible to have them be saved during time of Antichrist...

Will those able to be saved be those who have not heard the Gospel until end times?
