The real question here is do you as a Christian condone the murder of others over "freedoms". This war began over taxation, is that really a just cause to murder? What does the bible teach on obedience to our masters?

Wow, this will be a fun thread as you have TWO ill-conceived notions.

First- there was no "murder" for freedom. Murder is the illegal killing of a person. Fighting and killing in a war for freedom is NOT murder. (not to say some soldiers may have murdered civilians )

Second - Taxes was not the main reason for the War - it was # 14 -- check out the Declaration of Independence

The war was started by Freemasons over taxation without representation. Any second grade child knows this.

As to your ignorant comment on murder I will leave you this.

Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Now please explain away God Laws with your reason.

Then quoting from Wikipedia would not help since they have the same ignorant position as mine.

The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), the American War of Independence,[8] or simply the Revolutionary War in the United States, began as a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the United States of America, but gradually grew into a world war between Britain on one side and the United States, France, Netherlands and Spain on the other. The main result was an American victory, with mixed results for the other powers.

The war was the result of the political American Revolution. Colonists galvanized around the position that the Stamp Act of 1765, imposed by Parliament of Great Britain, was unconstitutional.[citation needed] The British Parliament insisted it had the right to tax colonists. The colonists claimed that, as they were British subjects, taxation without representation was illegal. The American colonists formed a unifying Continental Congress and a shadow government in each colony, though at first remaining loyal to the king. The American boycott of taxed British tea led to the Boston Tea Party in 1773, when shiploads of tea were destroyed. London responded by ending self-government in Massachusetts and putting it under the control of the British army with General Thomas Gage as governor

No matter what reason you cling to, you would murder men for money. That is what I am hearing in this forum thus far.

You are right - any second grader was told that the battle cry was "Taxation without....."

but did you google Declaration of Independence yet. ( I would link - but....)

With due respect, I believe you are ignorant on this. And I use ignorant with its dictionary meaning
All murder is killing, all killing (see def # 1) is NOT murder. Murder is the illegal killing of someone.

The legal government was Britian. It was illegal to kill a British soldier. God gave you no right to murder any authority He put over you for ANY reason! :BangHead:

I voted - No, moral support for the [Colonists] (there weren't any Americans yet...)

I do not believe followers of Christ as supposed to engage in warfare or violence in their lives. Though I understand the case for a just-war or defensive opposition, I do not believe sustained violence is proper.

The funny thing is that when I was in middle school we did this little practice where we had to write a paper based on what side of the Revolutionary War we would have been on: loyalists or revolutionaries. I chose loyalist since, as I reasoned, living where I did most of the area was loyalist area during the war. Anyways, that's an anecdote.

I do believe the Colonists were justified in their needing to separate from Britain though I do not support warfare in order to do so. However, I am unsure what other means were available to them. As a country pastor (I've always enjoyed the vision of being an old circuit riding preacher) I would have supported the cause but not engaged in warfare.

Yes, I would have fought in the American Revolution without reservation. Aside from taxes, the concept of royalty is enough to make one's stomach turn. I would not trade this nation for any other form of government. I suppose if I had to move, it would be to New Zealand.

Other wars I would have fought in would have been the Civil War (for the North, I was raised in Mississippi), WW1 and WW2, especially WW2. There have been no declared wars since then, so it is not correct to say anything beyond WW2. Most conflicts since WW2 have either been inspired by the UN, or us sticking our nose where it did not belong.

As others have pointed out, you are incorrect on more than one account.

War is not always murder. A just war cannot be. King Solomon, moved by the Holy Spirit, wrote in Eccl. 3 that there is a "time for war and a time for peace....a time to kill and a time to heal.....a time to break down and a time to build up" Certainly an unjust war would be immoral and murderous.

Do you feel that God is a pacifist? He sent His people to war many times - sometimes killing not only men, but women, children, and animals. And when Christ returns - well, it isn't going to be pleasant for those opposing Him. In fact, the Bible describes it as pretty gross.

None of us should "like" war or seek it out. But sometimes - it is inevitable.

You should read the Declaration of Independence, brother. And after that, read Patrick Henry's "The War Inevitable". It's one of my favorite speeches. I read it in Sunday School on Veteran's Day before the lesson as a tribute to all Americans who have served our country. Then we prayed for President Obama and country and then proceded with the lesson.

I have an excerpt of it here. It should enlighten you. The American Revolution was not fought over taxes alone, but many things - one of them being self-defense against an aggressive and cruel king whose intent it was to enslave his colonies.

I would've done what I felt compelled to do at the time.

I believe the manifest destiny of the U.S. is quite obvious.

    Moral Support -
Is nothing but a bunch of Hogwash - either you support me or you dont! Yes there were some who had reasons they could not - ie physical - women who stayed home to raise young children -ect. The main point is that if you are not willing to die for a cause - then moral support means nothing.

Was Rosie the Riveter giving just moral support or was she activitely supporting WWII

The cause was just. A careful reading of the Declaration of Independence will show that religious freedom was a huge issue and the driving force of our fight. I would have probably taken up arms. I say probably because it would depend on what God called me to do. I admit that I think of our present and possible future situation here as well. The question on my mind, and for me alone, is whether to serve as a pastor within the ranks of the soldiers or outside those ranks. I believe both to be good and righteous callings. Therefore the specific decision is based on God's specific call to me if the US should come to that state again.

I'll defer to God to answer this for me.

    1 Peter 2:18
Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

    2 Peter 2:10
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

    Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Okay, let me get this straight - had you lived in 19230-45 Germany, you would have supported Hitler - since he was the elected leader of the Fatherland

Servants, slaves of a secular master not citizens of a nation.

    Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ;
    Ephesians 6:5 NAS77

Context matters. Peter was speaking of corrupt men following their lust like Sodom and polluting themselves. They despised government as an extention of their contempt for anything that kept them from living like sodomites. Please tell me you are not implying that anyone who fought (or would fight) in the Revolution was a sodomite.

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
    Matthew 10:34 NAS77
