    This is from another thread"
First, I will say in the past, I have (along with others) have went off OP.

My basic question is : Why do we do this?
At times, someone will make a joke of a thread and then it gets way off base.

(in fact I started on thread in the games forum - entitled "stay off subject" now on its 21st page)

So how much leeway should we have if expanding the OP?

One thing I have done lately (and this thread is one example) is that I have started new threads and then made a quick statement on the original thread with a link to the new one.

Is it possible that as we post, we might have a thought that we think is appropriate - but others, especially the original poster, think it is de-railing.

Should moderators be more involved in moderating? If need be should they split the thread?

    Thoughts, recommendations, opinions?........

We don't need more regulation and oversight. Let the free market decide.

So you are saying if a thread goes off OP - then we should get our money back?

No, I'm saying to let the BB members police themselves. In your example thread Robert Snow claimed you were de-railing the thread--no moderator intervention needed.

thats nice in theory - but if the orginal poster thinks it is going way off - there is nothing he can do. What would you then suggest?

I married one of those - Canadians that is, eh. She wasn't blue and silvered haired then and she ain't now. Upkeep is a little higher these days keeping the grey away but she's worth it. She also keeps me from going to Jo-ja. She's afraid I'll start putting ice cubes in my tea.

Didn't mean to dump on you RevMitchell. Spelling nazism is a great thread derailing technique. Thought I'd give it a shot. Did I mention my not-so-blue-haired Canadian bride? When we were dating back in the day she returned one of my love letters all marked up like she was my English teacher. Spelling, punctuation, grammar; you name it. I said, "Baby, where do you get off correcting my English. You don't even speak English. You talk Canadian, eh."
