I use the NKJV in church and the NIV to study by.

Wouldn't allow me to choose more than one- mine in order of percentage of usage:

ESV- 55%

NLT- 10%

NiRV- 10%

KJV/NKJV- 10%

RV1960 (Spanish)- 10%

NTV (Spanish)- 5%

That seems to be a good combination. I have no problem with the KJV or others using it, as it is a good translation. My wife uses it alone. The reason I use the NKJV is certain words like verily, thou, the "eth" suffix, and other words that are no longer used.

You'd think it was a simple question, but not everyone has a single translation of choice, now that multiple versions are available so easily (and free) with PC software and apps. ESV is at the top of the list, but I usually refer to the Lexham English Bible, then the Holman and NET, as well.

So you just refer to it on-line? You don't have a print version? I have looked at it on-line and it is quite helpful. I think is a good one to put in the mix.

I use the HCSB in Church, and the HCSB and the KJV to study by.

No, I don't have a printed version. I have the full Bible downloaded on my Nook through the YouVersion app, so I can read it without an Internet connection. I find it an interesting translation. I have not read large chunks of it yet; mostly I'm comparing renderings with the pastor's texts. My understanding it is supposed to be a smoothed-out version of an interlinear.

That being said, using the text-only version is rather like using the NET without notes; part of the value of both versions is the insight into the translation process: the italics and bracketing (in the case of the LEB) or the translator notes (in the case of the NET.) I have downloaded an e-pub version of LEB, which has the extra material, and hope to get a better view of it.

We use the NIV in church now, but I study primarily from the NASB95.

On line I look at the NKJV, HCSB, WEB, and NET. I do not use the NIV, ESV, [snipped]. After I get home from church I often pop open my trusty NASB to see what the text really says. Quite often the NIV gets it right.

I believe the smiley face shows that he is kidding. But, what is the harm. If someone has an NIV for instance and he will never use it or give it away, it is no different than burning it, either way it will not be used.

After all, we burn flags that are worn out; it doesn't mean we desecrate them.

I will zap our brothers slur of an English translation of God's Word he doesn't like. Sad.

I translate God's Word myself in every text I preach. When bringing in collateral Scriptures (my sermons have 20-30 other verses so context, parallel and related texts make clear what God said, not what Bob thinks) I use the ESV.

I carry my KJV1769 oxford revision of the AV (Scofield Reference) to all services since I've had one since the day I was baptized (Easter 1958) and know where/what part of page, etc, verses are. I am old and might not be able to pull up a reference in my addled brain, but know about where it is in my Scofield.
