Personally I am all for arrogant Calvinists and the aggressiveness of the so called "new Calvinists" who are pushing so hard in the convention. The down side is that there will be more churches torn apart much like Germantown Baptist church in Memphis TN by a Cal pastor who snuck in their and divided the church until it split.

But it also means that the ability for influence will be a lot shorter lived in the long run. It will kill it altogether.

Personally I dont consider any Baptist to be a true Calvinist otherwise they would be Infant Baptizer's & follow the Westminster confessions. The Reformed (As in Dutch) & the Presbyterians (As in OPC) ..... They are real Calvinists.

What makes me a Calvinist in my eyes. The main reason I belonged to a PCA church for 25 years. Baptists do not live it, they talk it. As far as Mr. Washer, he walked into our church, and created doubt, accused, pointed fingers at good Christian people who have been there more than sixty years. He has some in tears. I have watched his Utube sermons, and he is a showman. His pattern is to whip the crowd into a frenzy about the Gospel, and then he says "Why are you cheering, most of you are lost." He is an arrogant, rude person. He will never darken our doors again if the Lord allows me to live that long.

He had the whole congregation in turmoil, and as one of the people who holds offices in that church, it is not going to happen again.

Yes I do get your drift....IE your against someone who has a reformed soteriology in aggressively pushing it under a Southern Baptist church system. Frankly so do I. If your serious about that soterology, leave the SBC & go to a church that teaches it & quit languishing in an environment where you can never truly express your theological beliefs.

However there are others who will disagree.

Uh no there are plenty of reformed churches in the SBC and they can express them just fine.

I cant see how a congregation can be Reformed & remain in the SBC.

If this were a Presbyterian board, how much time do you think would be wasted arguing about Calvinism?

Zero.....they all agree to the premise but they differ in degrees of it....therefore there would be a dialog. They would also carve out some time to critique Reformed Baptist (who they consider in error). Conversely, when I was a Presbyterian I went to a Reformed Baptist church to take some instruction & I recall walking in & having the Pastor specifically point me out to everyone in the conference room as being a Presbyterian & then cautioning them that "Even though I was a Paedo that they were to treat me with love" .....I found that odd, were they really or were they just tolerating me?

It is also the mentality that leads cals to the attitude that anyone that opposes calvinism should be publicly destroyed.

The bolded sentence is what closed this thread. In the future such statements will gain infractions for the writer responsible.

Throwing gasoline, hand grenades, dynamite, ect. into the fire of this debate (by either side) will not be tolerated.
